The Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral in collaboration with the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Guild of Organists cordially invites you to an organ recital series to be held at Noon every Tuesday during the month of June.
It is our privilege to present four outstanding organists who will offer
a diverse repertoire of organ literature for your enjoyment on our restored and expanded Whitelegg-Möller organ, Op. 6425. Join us in the cool and quiet of our magnificent Cathedral.
The recitals are free and open to the public.
This is, according to many, the 50th year of Philadelphia Chapter, AGO Tuesday Noon Recitals. The idea began, probably in the latter 1960’s, and when Earl Ness at First Baptist Church in Philadelphia and Wesley Day at St Mark’s Episcopal Church on Locust St started an informal lunchtime series of organ recitals. These were set up in the milder months to entertain the local business men and women, giving an opportunity to hear those 2 fine organs at a time other than during Sunday mornings or special concerts. Eventually organs at The Church of the Holy Trinity, Rittenhouse Square and The First Presbyterian Church, 21st & Walnut were added. Gradually the idea caught on and spread out to include other major organs throughout the Philadelphia region.
