St. Paul's Church Office has been contacted by a number of people in the past week regarding a phishing (fake/scam) email that is made to look as if it's coming from the Rev. John Denson. This email, and others like it, often have an unusual tone, and convey the need for help, a sense of urgency and a request for "discretion."
When receiving emails from the Rev. John Denson or any of St. Paul's staff, please be aware that these phishing emails can and do happen from time to time.
A clear indicator of a fake/scam email is the email address in the From field. St. Paul's staff emails utilize the person's first initial and last name @stpaulsindy.org (for example, jdenson@stpaulsindy.org).
So, seeing that a suspicious email was sent from an address like stpaulsoffice317@gmail.com, DensonRevJohn@outlook.com, etc. indicates a phishing attempt.
Should you have any questions or concerns about email communication from St. Paul's staff, you can always ask by sending a new email (do NOT reply to the suspicious email) to the staff member at their @stpaulsindy.org address, or call the Church Office to check on its validity.
