Cooperative Care for Low Stress Veterinary Procedures with Cassie Malina, CPBC, CPBT-KA

As we increase our awareness of the link between nutrition, and physical and mental wellness, we also grow our awareness of how stress and illness are linked. Detrimental side effects can also be caused by the added stress of necessary medical procedures when birds are already immunocompromised. When we prioritize training our birds to participate in their own care voluntarily and cooperatively, we not only greatly reduce the stress associated with veterinary procedures, but we also maximize their physical and mental wellness. At the same time, this builds trust in our relationships with our animals. Join Cassie as she shares some of the many behaviors you can train your birds to voluntarily participate in to increase their wellbeing, and achieve your behavior and relationship goals.

Our 25th Birthday, April 20th!

Phoenix Landing celebrates its 25th birthday this month. This milestone is not just a date on the calendar; it’s a heartfelt tribute to the countless individuals and cherished parrots who have contributed to the success of our mission - Helping Parrots. Here is a video celebrating just a few of our memories of the people and parrots who made the last 25 years possible.

Video Celebrating 25 years

Sustainability is our #1 mission.

We created an Endowment for Sustainability several years ago through the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina. Just a small donation a month can help it grow, protecting our future and perhaps your bird's future as well.

NEW Cage Refresher Boxes

As we look forward to our next 25 years, Phoenix suggests that our bird's cages may deserve some refreshing upon occasion! We can easily forget that doing simple things like adding or changing out perches can make a world of difference to our parrot's mental and physical health.

Phoenix Landing is excited to introduce a new Cage Refresher Box, updated every three months with new items, to help provide a facelift for your parrot's cage. This box will include 2 perches and 1-2 new toys. A variety of perches for movement are not only positive for your bird's activity level, but these also help to protect the longevity of powder-coated cages when birds use perches as their "highway" instead of the cage bars. Refresher boxes are available in multiple sizes, click here to order. Don't forget, there is no "correct" size for perches, birds appreciate all types and sizes, and it helps to keep their feet and toes more agile.

Wish Lists, Lots of Ways to Help!

  • Small monthly pledges greatly help to sustain us!
  • Check out our Wish Lists on Amazon or Chewy. We always need in shell walnuts and almonds. And this month our most needed requests specifically from our Amazon wish list are pistachios and kamut!, as well as quinoa, walnuts and almonds in shell, and Dawn Free and Clear.
  • We also have an Amazon Workshop Wishlist for maintenance, repair, and toy-making. We are constantly fixing cages, doing maintenance in the adoption centers, or conducting Hurricane Helene repair.
  • Shop at our on-line store, HelpingParrots.comanother essential revenue source for us.
  • Donate to our Endowment for Sustainability. Even $5 a month adds up!
  • Parrot taxi drivers always appreciated! We serve a large area on the east coast, and strive to make the best family matches for every bird. If you're interested in helping to transport a bird to their next home, sign up and join us!
