Troubleshooting the Step-Up Behavior
Melanie Canatella, CPDT-KA, CPBT-KA, Fear Free Certified Trainer
July 19th, Saturday, 1:00pm EASTERN
Having a parrot step-up is a common goal, but should it be? Sometimes it is a skill that is difficult to train; a skill we train in a different way; or a skill that we don't need to accomplish at all. Join us to learn why you may still be struggling with teaching this behavior, and let's explore some additional ideas and methods. The goal is to inspire you to find the approach that works best for your bird's circumstances, environment, and relationship with you.

The Good Life:
Tips and Essentials
July 19 - 26
| | | Our core classes look at the essential ingredients to help parrots thrive in our homes - from nutrition and behavior, to enrichment, health, and anatomy. These classes are open to anyone looking to learn or get some new ideas. Adoption applicants may be asked to complete some brief "homework." | | Quarterly Refresher Box, July | | | Oftentimes we forget that doing simple things like adding or changing out perches can make a world of difference to enriching our parrot's day-to-day life! Introducing Phoenix's next Cage Refresher Box. Regularly updated every quarter with new items, this box helps give a facelift to your parrot's cage. This box includes 1 boing (for action and exercise!) and 2 new toys. Let's keep life interesting for our birds too! Choose from 3 sizes: Small for $30.00, Medium for $40.00, Large for $50.00. | | |

Interested in learning more about wild parrots while also supporting conservation? This might be just the trip for you! Costa Rica is home to several parrot species including great green and scarlet macaws, as well as Amazons, conures, and pionus parrots. Costa Rica is known for its incredible biodiversity and abundant wild life. The people, known to themselves as “Ticos,” have elected to honor and protect their native lands and animals through their laws and national parks.
| | Some of Our Adoptable Birds | | Do you enjoy loud busy-ness? Antics? A bit of drama? Don't mind earplugs? Are you ok with using something other than your hands or arms to move a parrot from one place to another? Then maybe a boisterous, chatty, male Moluccan is for you! These are magical, soulful parrots that are not for many, and certainly not easy to live with, so it's important to be behavior, space, enrichment, and nutrition savvy. But if you are that rare person with a creative capacity for entertainment and high-energy, let us know! To learn more about our adoption process, click here | | Birds Helped as of July 1st | |

Our goal? To promote The Power of Good Information! | | Wish Lists, Lots of Ways to Help! | |
-
Small monthly pledges greatly help to sustain us!
-
Check out our Wish Lists on Amazon or Chewy. We are always in need of in-shell walnuts, almonds, pistachios, and hazelnuts. We are also updating our mash to the freezer storage containers listed.
-
We also have an Amazon Workshop Wishlist for maintenance, repair, and toy-making. We are constantly fixing cages and doing maintenance in the adoption centers.
-
Shop at our on-line store, HelpingParrots.com, another essential revenue source for us.
-
Want to prepare for your bird's future? Donate to our Endowment for Sustainability. Even $5 a month adds up!
-
Parrot taxi drivers always appreciated! We serve a large area on the east coast, and strive to make the best family matches for every bird. If you're interested in helping to transport a bird to their next home, sign up and join us!
-
Become a 2025 Phoenix Landing member. Shopping discounts good for one year from the date joined.
-
Live in the Asheville area? On-site volunteers are always needed for cleaning cages and feeding birds, if you're interested in helping on a regular basis.
-
Monetary donations are always welcome. The parrots appreciate every dollar.
-
Have a car, truck, motorcycle, RV, or boat you would like to donate? Perhaps it is in need of repair? Now you can donate it through the non-profit, CARS, and have it benefit Phoenix Landing Foundation: https://careasy.org/nonprofit/phoenix-landing-foundation.
Non-monetary donations may be sent to:
Phoenix Landing 31 Landing Place, Alexander, NC 28701
Please drop us a note at contact@phoenixlanding.org if you purchase something for us, including if you'd like a thank you note, as vendors rarely tell us who generously purchases something for us. Thanks for helping parrots!
