Phoenix Police Foundation Fundraising To Renovate Victim Center

The Phoenix Police Foundation announces the kickoff of its capital campaign to raise $550,000 to renovate, remodel and upgrade the victim’s center at the Phoenix Police Department’s Family Investigations Bureau on North Central Avenue.

The renovation will develop a new space that will provide more dignity and respect as well as a more welcoming environment for those seeking aid. The goals of the project are to create warmer interview rooms and add more privacy with a pass-through entryway into the forensic nurse examination rooms.

The Phoenix Police Department’s Family Investigations Bureau sees over 2,400 sexual assault and domestic violence victims each year. By upgrading the existing center, these victims of all races, gender, age, sexual orientation and socioeconomic status will have a more comfortable atmosphere when reporting the crimes committed against them.

Funds for the victim’s center will be collected by the Phoenix Police Foundation until the completion of the remodel. Through private funding from individual, foundation and corporate partners, the Phoenix Police Foundation believes a project of this size could be completed more quickly.

New Rides For Bike Squad

The Phoenix Police Foundation provided a grant to the Phoenix Police Department to purchase eight new mountain bikes for its Desert Horizon Precinct bike squad.

The bike squad, in the Sunnyslope neighborhood, is an important aspect of ongoing community outreach efforts. Desert Horizon Precinct Commander Brian Issitt said, “The bike patrol officers are great ambassadors of the police department within the community, and they are an integral part of our success.”

Using mountain bikes, officers can access areas where patrol cars cannot go, like on campuses and through highly congested areas. The bikes can help engagement between civilians and law enforcement since the officers are more approachable outside of a vehicle, and the bikes can be a topic of conversation with the public.
