Supporting Adolescents and Families

Life gets so busy sometimes it's hard to keep up. Phoenix Recovery Programs can help. This monthly newsletter will highlight research, events, and activities happening in the behavioral health field. As always, we are happy to help in any way we can, so please reach out to us.
Outpatient Treatment Comes to Mankato!

Phoenix Recovery Programs is excited to announce the opening of an outpatient program in our Mankato location. The program will operate in two phases. Phase 1 is Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30 pm-6:30 pm and a Family Group on Tuesdays from 4:30 pm-6:30 pm. This phase lasts approximately 6 weeks, but also depends on progress clients make. Phase 2 is where clients attend group on Thursday from 4:30 pm-6:30 pm and the Family Group on Tuesdays from 4:30 pm-6:30 pm. This phase also lasts approximately 6 weeks, but again depends on client progress. All clients will also meet with their counselor individually at least once every other week. Contact us today for more information and to make a referral!
The Great Marijuana Debate
Marijuana has been in the headlines quite a bit lately. From medical marijuana to full legalization, there's intense debate on where we as a nation should land on this drug. Is it as safe and benign as some proponents say? Is it the harmful, gateway drug others claim? According to the National Academy of Medicine, we don't know. There's just not much research either way. Lots of claims, lots of risks, but not much that is definitive. The one thing we do know is that the answers will not be simple to find. The New Yorker has more.

We Have a New Resource For You
Sources of good information can be hard to find. We at Phoenix Recovery Programs wanted to find a way to share information to better collaborate and serve our adolescent clients. So, we've created the Phoenix Recovery Program blog. We will have therapy activities, parent and family resources, general information, and more on there. It may be new and small now, but keep your eye on it. The blog will become a great resource. You can find it under the Resources tab on our website!

And, if you have questions or ideas for information you'd like to see posted there, please let us know.
Training Corner
Trauma. It's a major player in looking at mental health and behavioral health concerns. But what's going on? How do we begin treating it?

Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, author of The Body Keeps the Score, is a leading expert on trauma. In partnership with PESI, Inc, he has created a 1 hour online free CEU that reviews some key information on trauma and how the treatment of trauma needs to be approached. He also discusses why substance abuse programs need to be aware of this, too.

Welcome to Our New Interns

Phoenix Recovery Programs has two new interns joining us this month. We've been working with Melia Kennelly, who has been with us since September. She is a student at Mankato State University and is working in our girls' program. Joining her this month is Brianne Zabinski and Brennah McCorkell. Brianne and Brennah are also students at Mankato State University and will be working in the girls' program. Welcome to Phoenix!

Interested in an internship with us? Give us a call or email us and we'll be happy to discuss it with you!
