Supporting Adolescents and Families

Life gets so busy sometimes it's hard to keep up. Phoenix Recovery Programs can help. This monthly newsletter will highlight research, events, and activities happening in the behavioral health field. As always, we are happy to help in any way we can, so please reach out to us.
Internship Fair at St. Cloud State
St. Cloud State University has a growing program for anyone interested in learning to become an LADC. On March 1, Phoenix Recovery Programs was privileged to attend their Internship Fair. They gathered current interns, students looking for internships, and students new to the program to discuss internships and how they work. Phoenix was one of many programs there to talk about what we look for in interns and to discuss internship opportunities students have. Phoenix is proud to support addictions studies programs and welcomes those looking for internships to apply.
The Neuroscience of Addiction
Despite all we know about addiction and how to treat it, we are just making progress now in understanding just what different substances do to our brain on a neurological level. This understanding is vital to developing even more effective ways to treat substance use problems. This article by Dr. Judith Grisel sheds some light on what we have recently learned about substance use and the brain.

Community Outpatient Treatment

Our community outpatient program in Mankato has openings. We can assist with completing assessments for clients or can get started with the orientation appointment if clients already have a current substance use assessment. Phase 1 is three days per week plus an individual session. Phase 2 is 2 days per week plus an individual session. We will work with community mental health providers or assist clients in arranging mental health therapy as needed. Please contact us today at 651-403-6409 for more information or to make a referral.
Training Corner
Change is hard. We all know that. We also know it gets frustrating to see clients in and out of treatment programs, detention centers, therapy, and more despite the efforts of many people to change that pattern. So, how can therapists, probation officers, detention staff, psychologists, county officials, teachers, and other caring professionals support clients in different ways as clients attempt to make lasting changes in their lives? This CEU from NADAAC suggests there are things we tend to overlook as we work with clients that, in truth, play a larger part in lasting change. The webinar is on Wednesday, April 10th from 2-3:30 pm. While the webinar is free to attend, there is a small fee for obtaining the CEU credit.
