With over 71,000 acres, there is an abundance of wildlife in their natural habitat. Wildlife Loop Road is best for sighting of bison (buffalo), pronghorn and prairie dogs as well as deer, elk and bighorn sheep, in the earning morning or later in the evening. We were there for the Buffalo Roundup which is held yearly since the 1960's to eradicate the disease brucellosis. It is in conjunction with the fall sale as a way to manage the size of the heard (to keep the herd size compatible with the available forage) and provide an opportunity to brand and vaccinate the calves.
