Inaugural Grant Awards Ceremony

Your gifts were magnified, your votes combined and the first grants of the Circle have been made! In just a year and half, you have created a hugely successful program. Congratulations!

On Thursday, May 14 at Mount Claret Retreat Center, the recipients were announced at the Inaugural Awards Ceremony. Circle members, grant recipients, and guests gathered with Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted and Karie Dozer to present four grants totaling $60,000!

And the winners are...

Rev. Robert Bolding accepts $25,000 grant check from Bishop Olmsted

St. Mary's Catholic High School. Rev. Robert Bolding, President and Rector, accepted the $25,000 award. This grant will enable them to create a sacred environment within their gym by purchasing new speakers and a wall panel to allow for even more versatile applications. They will also be able to purchase a backdrop to frame the altar. This will greatly enhance the Mass experience for the entire student body.

Margaret MacCleary accepts $20,000 grant check from Bishop Olmsted

Most Holy Trinity Catholic School. Margaret MacCleary, Principal, accepted the $20,000 award. With this grant, they will be able to implement an Ultimate Fitness Project. The first phase is the Minds in Motion Program, which focuses on activating sensory motor integration processes to build a strong neurological foundation. The second phase will be updating their playground equipment to provide a space appealing for all ages. Watch for your playground ribbon cutting ceremony invitation!

Pedro Gutierrez talks to the audience about his experience in The Way of St. James Documentary

Catholics in Action. Pedro Gutierrez, board member of Catholics in Action and an employee at St. Anne Parish, accepted the $10,000 award. Catholics in Action, along with St. Anne Parish created a documentary, The Way of St. James. 11 young men (including Mr. Gutierrez) set out to walk 500 miles along the northern coast of Spain to Santiago de Compostela on the ancient Catholic pilgrimage. Shannon David speaks to the audience about implementing the Student Vision Screeners for the diocese

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School. Shannon David, school nurse, accepted the $5,000 award for student vision screening equipment. This grant will enable them to purchase two Titmus V2 Vision Screeners. The machines allow for a more accurate and comprehensive vision testing. These screeners can identify children that have vision issues and can refer them to an optometrist.

Shannon shared with the audience that she recently met with all diocesan school nurses and has committed to sharing the machine with ALL schools!

As of May 2015, the Circle has become the primary grantmaking entity for the Catholic Community Foundation. Janine Campo has accepted Trish Stark's invitation to chair the CLC next year. We are excited to support Janine in taking this program to new heights!
