South Carolina State University's ROTC Bulldog Battalion commissioned four new second lieutenants -- one from SC State, two from Claflin University and one from Voorhees University -- on Friday, Sept. 16, 2022.


2nd Lt. Jessica Mary Owens received a reserve commission and branched Adjutant General Corps. She is a chemistry major graduating from South Carolina State University and hails from Summerton, South Carolina.


2nd Lt. Tionne Tarel Mitchell has received a reserve commission and branched Chemical Corps. She is a sociology major graduating from Claflin University and hails from Goose Creek, South Carolina.


2nd Lt. Ny’Asia Iesha Campbell has received an active duty commission and branched Corps of Engineers. She is a criminal justice major graduating from Claflin University and hails from Dillon, South Carolina.


2nd Lt. Joshua Emmanuel Gayle has received an active-duty commission and branched Field Artillery. He is a business administration major with a concentration in finance graduating from Voorhees University and hails from Augusta, Georgia.


The former cadets were sworn in by Col. Samuel B. Glover II, a 1995 SC State alumnus, who also served as the occasion's speaker.


The SC State Bulldog Battalion is celebrating the 75th anniversary of its founding this year.
