Parents in Asheville, NC will never have to hear those dreaded words again.  You know the ones I'm talking about.

"Mom...I'm bored! There's nothing fun to do around here!"

Why not? Because Mountain Lodge Lodge is here!

With their Grand Opening April 15th, Mountain Play Lodge offers a unique play experience with soft foam sculptures, inflatable bouncers, and the most amazing play village from Lilliput Play Homes

With an activity-filled castle that mirrors the architectural style of the nearby Biltmore, children can run, climb, crawl, slide their way through imaginary worlds.

There is also a stunning Tudor play village where the children can play dress-up, get a manicure in the adorable Beauty Boutique, have a quick check-up at the Doctor's Office, or grab some groceries at the charming market.  Or, perhaps best of all, children can become a firefighting hero, dousing the flames of the "burning" building!

It's hard to believe we're halfway through April, isn't it?!  I love seeing those cheerful bulbs and flowering trees everywhere I go!

Here at Lilliput Play Homes, we have had our best first quarter ever!
In addition to a bunch of residential playhouses, we have built and installed three commercial (interior) play villages.
I just love talking with these entrepreneurs; they all have such unique and creative visions.

If you have been keeping up with our blog, then you have seen some of the great photos I've posted of these three fantastic, and yet very different, play villages.  In this newsletter, I've included some of our newest photos from Mountain Play Lodge.  To the moms and dads of Asheville, NC: the rest of us are green with envy!!

Our second quarter is figuring to be even better than our first quarter.  We're busy building an exterior commercial play village for Camp Mohawk in White Plains, NY.  If I were a kid, this is where I'd want to go to camp!!

So, keep your eye on our soon as I get photos of our newest creations, I'll post them for you.

Happy Spring!

Over the past several years, we have been receiving more and more requests for interior playhouses and play villages.  While some of these requests have been for residential usage, the vast majority have been for commercial applications.

We have consulted with hotels and shopping malls, schools and doctor's offices, family entertainment centers and day care centers.  Many inquiries have been for play centers to be placed alongside gourmet coffee shops, healthy eateries, and/or boutiques.   Others are incorporated as part of a larger themed experience.  There really is no end to the creativity and ingenuity of the entrepreneurs I am privileged to work with!

Did you know?

Children are the best medicine!  On average, children laugh 200 times a day.  Adults laugh 15 to 18 times a day.  Having a child (or working with children) gives you the chance to make up a pretty big humor deficit!

Your Child's
Sense of Humor

A sense of humor can brighten family life.  You can blow raspberries on a baby's belly, put on a silly hat and chase a 3-year-old, or pretend to fall into a pile of leaves to amuse a first-grader.  As kids grow into preteens and teens, you can share puns and jokes as their sense of what's funny grows more sophisticated.

Laughing together is a way to connect, and a good sense of humor can make kids smarter, healthier, and better able to cope with challenges.

We tend to think of humor as part of our genetic makeup, but a sense of humor actually is a learned quality that can be developed in kids.

How can you encourage your child's sense of humor?

  • Be a humor model.  Make jokes.  Tell funny stories.  Laugh out loud.
  • Take kids' humor seriously.  Praise your child for trying to be funny and be open to surprise.
  • Create a humor-rich environment.  Surround your kids with funny books, joke books, and comics.  Help them choose funny TV shows, movies and websites.
Above all, remember humor is social.  That's why you laugh harder at a funny movie when you see it in the theater with other people laughing around you than all alone on your couch.

Remember, the family that laughs together....!
