S.1301 Promoting Physical Activity for Americans Act
Earlier this month, the Senate passed S.1301 - Promoting Physical Activity for Americans Act via voice vote. The Bill, sponsored by Senators Brown, Wicker, and Capito, requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) to publish updated physical activity guidelines every 10 years based on the latest scientific evidence. The Guidelines serve as the primary, authoritative voice of the federal government for evidence-based guidance on physical activity, fitness, and health for Americans. They provide evidence-based guidance to help Americans maintain or improve their health through physical activity. The latest version was released in 2018. Read

Cross-sectional Study of Changes in Physical Activity Behavior During the COVID-19 Pandemic Among US adults
CDC authors recently published the study “Cross-sectional Study of Changes in Physical Activity Behavior During the COVID-19 Pandemic Among US Adults” which examined changes in physical activity behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic among U.S adults. Researchers found that even though 20% US adults reported increased physical activity, nearly 30% of those surveyed reported decreased physical activity during the pandemic.

“Physical Activity and Public Health: Addressing Gaps in Research for Special Population Subgroups”
The International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (IJERPH) is featuring a special issue “Physical Activity and Public Health: Addressing Gaps in Research for Special Population Subgroups”. This special issue is seeking original submissions addressing physical activity in international special population subgroups including (but not limited to) people living with chronic disease/conditions and/or disability, as well as underserved, under-resourced, economically disadvantaged, vulnerable and/or marginalized populations. Authors are invited to submit no later than February 15, 2022.

Physical Activity 2021 - The Lancet
Ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, The Lancet launched its third Series on physical activity, which extended knowledge base from previous Series’ (2012 and2016) on the importance of regular physical activity and sport to our health and wellbeing.
In the past decade, not enough progress has been made to improve physical activity worldwide, with adolescents and people living with disabilities (PLWD) among the least likely populations to have the support needed to meet WHO’s physical activity guidelines.

2nd Physical Activity Almanac, The Global Observatory for Physical Activity (GoPA!)
In the Second Physical Activity Almanac, GoPA! presents the complete Second Set of 164 Country Cards with the available evidence up to 2019-2020 on physical activity research, policy and surveillance worldwide, corresponding to a global coverage of 75.9%. The purpose of the Almanac is to help countries to determine their needs and initiate or improve standardized data collection, surveillance systems, policy making, research, health burden statistics, program development, and evaluation related to physical activity.
