FAFP Continues Efforts to Influence FL Loan Forgiveness Opportunities
As noted in FAFP communications since March 2022, the Florida legislature appropriated $6 million for physician and other healthcare provider loan forgiveness from which qualifying FAFP members might be eligible to receive $20,000 to pay down their medical school debt. The Florida Reimbursement Assistance for Medical Education Program (FRAME) provides all of the details to date from the Florida Department of Health (FL-DoH). The FAFP and our consultants have been working closely with the FMA and the FL-DoH staff to ensure the program's eligibility requirements are equitable and allow for as many family physicians who serve in underserved areas throughout Florida to qualify for the funding. It is the FAFP's understanding the application process will prospectively be initiated around February 1, 2023, and remain open for approximately 60 days so that payments can be distributed prior to the end of 2023 legislative session on May 5. Efforts are underway to have FRAME staff attend the 2022 FAFP Winter Summit in Amelia Island to answer questions directly about the program.
While the FAFP cannot guarantee eligibility for any FAFP members, it is important to begin identifying family physicians who will be applying for funding to ensure targeted communications can be provided when the application process opens. Please CLICK HEREand complete the brief survey so the FAFP can provide you with targeted emails at the appropriate time. It is imperative that the monies appropriated this year be utilized in order to ensure future funding opportunities in the 2023 legislative session and beyond. If you have any questions in the meantime, please email Jay Millson (jmillson@fafp.org).
