CMS Announces New Payment Model to Improve Quality, Coordination, Cost-effectiveness 
On Jan. 10, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation announced the launch of a new voluntary bundled payment model called Bundled Payments for Care Improvement Advanced. Read more here
Med Students Discuss Opioid Epidemic with Legislators  
Eighteen medical students met with State Rep. Dave Baker (R-Willmar, right) and Sen. Chris Eaton (DFL-Brooklyn Center) to discuss the opioid epidemic at the MMA office on Jan. 9. The students are part of Hands on Advocacy, which is focusing its work on addressing the opioid epidemic this year. Baker and Eaton, both of whom have lost children to the epidemic, are both sponsoring legislation to address the issue. Others pictured include students Tom Schmidt (left) and Emma Worthington.

MMA Recruiting Members for New Quality Measurement Work Group
As part of a grant from the COPIC Foundation, the MMA is recruiting physician members with knowledge and expertise in quality measurement and quality improvement to participate in a new MMA work group. The group will define key measures of health care and health, and develop and recommend a physician-consensus core measure set. The MMA will use this set to influence the state's mandated quality measures of physician practices, as well as the work of MN Community Measurement. The work group will meet between late February and June. If you are interested in participating, please contact the MMA at  kgloege@mnmed.org.
Registration Now Open for Day at the Capitol
Registration is now open for the MMA's 2018 Day at the Capitol, which takes place on March 14. It's a fantastic opportunity to get directly involved in the advocacy process at the Capitol and meet with state legislators. The 2018 session starts Feb. 20, so our Day at the Capitol is at the opportune time to start influencing pro-medicine legislation. For more information and to register, click here.
