The March Customers of the Month are a father-daughter duo who frequent our Waterloo store.
"I like the fact that Hansen's Dairy is a local family-owned company that cares about the product and the customers," said Jim Galanits. He noted that they started drinking Hansen's milk when his daughter McKenna was a toddler.
"We moved her from formula to milk and got a half-gallon to try, and McKenna loved it. We then purchased a gallon of milk from the grocery store, and she would not drink it. The only milk she would drink regularly was Hansen's milk," he said. "Now it is a staple dairy product in our house."
McKenna Galanits, who will be 15 this month, even recalls visiting the farm as a child with her daycare. "That was when I first realized where my milk and ice cream was coming from," she said.
The family enjoys riding their bikes to the store and getting an ice cream treat during the summer.
"My favorite ice cream is the raspberry, which a worker got me hooked on," McKenna said. "I enjoy the fact that (the products are) all locally sourced, and the workers are always super nice with a smile on their faces."

The nice weather has got us thinking about it, so we decided to feature Summer as our March Cow of the Month.
We don't know too much about Summer's personality yet, because she is just expecting her first calf in March. When a cow joins the milking herd, that's when we really get to know her.
We do know that Summer's father is Astronaut, a bull who was actually born in 1964. So he is long deceased, but his reproductive units live on!
For now, Summer is in the dry cow pen. Farmer Blake moves heifers up to the dry cow pen about 4 weeks before they are due to calve to get them used to more human contact, transition to a new diet, and keep a close watch on them in case they calve early.

Ingredients
- 1 pkg Beelers Bacon*
- 6-8 cups Hansen’s Dairy Milk*
- ½ cup Hansen’s Dairy Cream*
- 2 packages (10-12 oz) frozen broccoli or 2 heads cut into bite sized pieces
- 1 package (10-12 oz) frozen sliced carrots or 4 – 6 medium fresh carrots
- ½ medium onion or 3 Tbsp dried, minced onion
- Pepper to taste
- 1 - 1 ½ cups Burnett Dairy Fancy Jack shredded cheese*
*Items that can be purchased at Hansen’s Dairy Stores

Directions
- Cut bacon into ½ - 1 inch strips.
- Chop broccoli and carrots, and mince onion if using fresh.
- Place bacon strips in 5-6 quart pot and cook on medium heat on stovetop until done, stirring frequently. (I like to cover the pot to prevent the grease from splattering.)
- Add milk, cream, broccoli, carrots and onions to bacon.
- Cook on medium heat for about 15-20 minutes or until vegetables are desired consistency, stirring occasionally.
- Ladle into bowls. Add pepper to taste. Top with a sprinkling of shredded cheese.
- Enjoy!
