JANUARY 2023

A Message From David

Dear Friends,

I have a daily inspirational quote calendar on my desk and this quote resonated to me for its optimistic message. I hope it resonates with you also this year!

“Let us make our future now and let us make our dreams tomorrow’s reality.”

This quote came from Malala Yousafzai, the young woman from Pakistan who won the Nobel Peace Prize at the age of 17.

As the calendar turns to 2023 let us look to the future of Pickering Manor and the many wonderful opportunities that await our beloved community. We started out the year with our annual Department of Health survey and passed it with minimum deficiencies. Many thanks to our dedicated staff and especially to Terry Ziegler, our Director of Nursing and Jacqui Bentivoglio, our Assistant Director of Nursing for their tireless efforts in working with the staff and survey team.

The Pickering community sincerely thanks our Auxiliary and other faithful volunteers for all their efforts in making the holidays at Pickering warm, shiny, and bright! We look forward to your continued efforts in our community and we are glad that you are partners in providing a quality experience for our residents. The future is illuminated with you shining stars!

To our community of neighbors, families, and staff our future is bright, but not without our challenges. My wish is that you will join our community in moving Pickering forward to meet the needs of today’s standards in the Long-Term community. Support our residents by visiting or volunteering. Attend and donate to our fundraising events and help us spread the word in our local communities that we are a community that cares and provides an enriched experience to our residents and families!

My hope and wish for all of you is that 2023 is a year that will be memorable and one in which dreams do become your reality! Happy New Year!

David

A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO OUR DONORS!

We wanted to take this opportunity to thank all those donors who supported our spring appeal. As you may recall, this appeal raised funding for renovations to our Atrium. The Atrium is the centerpiece of Pickering Manor. Our residents gather here to socialize and work on various activities. Also, this is a wonderful space for families to gather with their loved ones when they come to visit.

Your support has allowed us to add truckloads of soil to our flower beds as well as to add new plants, flowers and trees. This has made such a difference and our residents have been enjoying the beauty of the improvements in this area. Along with improved moods, flowers and trees are known stress relievers. Just sitting in this area can help to reduce anxiety and improve attitude and disposition.

Thank you again for all you do to help us care for and comfort all those in our community.
