JUNE 2021

A Message From Michelle
As May is the month to celebrate Moms; June holds the key to the month dedicated to Dads…

It reminds me to take pause and consider the men who have made an important impact in my life and I would invite you to do the same. Father, Husband, Brothers, Son and Son-in-Law, Friends who have become Family…all of them assuming spaces in my life where they have loved and are loved. Each one holding a space in a memory that allows me to realize the importance of balance; of surrounding myself with men who are good dads, husbands, fathers and friends.

I have been blessed during my time at Pickering to watch this evolution take place and to see how sons and daughters are able to honor their fathers and show their gratitude. I believe it’s sometimes more difficult for our ‘dads’ to accept the limitations that have come with age due to the expectations that society placed on that generation. They were expected to be stronger, smarter, more fierce and protective…and now, they are the ones needing the love and protection. It’s a role reversal that can be a difficult transition; however, we witness daily how it is met with grace and dignity. We are honored to be part of the process that supports these connections.

And so, I encourage us all to take a moment to reflect on the male role models who helped shape us; regardless of their ‘title’ in our lives….and let us not forget that we continue to have opportunities to grow and be influenced by the strength and tenacity of those that have lived generations before us. In them, may we find hope, and humor, and direction to continue their legacy in generations to come!

Happy June & Happy Fathers Day to all!

New trusses on the East Wing roof.
New windows and frames have been installed for the East Wing rooms.
The Annual Newtown Rotary Golf Outing in 2020 had to be canceled due to COVID-19, so we were overjoyed to host over 90 golfers in this year's Outing to benefit Pickering Manor at Trenton Country Club on Monday, June 7. Temperatures reached over 90 degrees, but that didn't stop anyone from enjoying a day of golf for a good cause. We raised over $37,000 for Pickering Manor's residents and services. We thank our host, Trenton Country Club, the Newtown Rotary Golf Committee, our loyal sponsors, golfers, and auction donors for their support of this event.
Rotary Members and volunteers Charlie Quattrone (left) and Mick Petrucci (right) help at registration.
Trenton Country Club staff get the carts ready for the shotgun start.
Our golfers enjoyed a very hot day on the course.
Golf carts outside the Pro Shop ready for the event!
The Hole in One prize car provided by Team Toyota! Many golfers made it very close to the pin, but none sunk it in one shot! Better luck next time!
Thanks to our silent auction donors and winning bidders, we raised over $2,400 with this year's auction!
Happiest of birthdays to our residents celebrating a birthday this month:
