October 2021

A Message From Michelle
October…she is quietly magnificent. She gently ushers in the changes that prepare us for the coming months and just as May delights us with the first signs of spring; October shows off her landscape and morphs into breathtaking shades of orange and yellow. Pumpkin Coffee, football, comfy sweatshirts, and crisp, cool mornings delight our senses and remind us that we have so much for which to be grateful!
My message this month is one of Hope. Just as October welcomes those changes I mentioned, Pickering Manor is also welcoming the Hope that comes with knowing that we are continuing to care and love those beautiful men and women who have been entrusted to our care and doing all we can to keep them safe.
As I mentioned in the September newsletter, Pickering Manor is sharing a mandatory Covid-19 Vaccine policy with our staff effective October 1st. Most of our staff have been vaccinated and are scheduled for their Booster. We continue to discuss, educate and encourage those who are unvaccinated to consider the safety and well-being of not only those in our care, but for one another.
I’m also hoping that all who are reading this newsletter, and especially if you have a loved one at Pickering Manor or in any other care facility consider the importance of vaccination. While making the vaccine mandatory for the staff, I am not yet able to require those visiting to be vaccinated at this time. I am actually hoping the regulations will change and that this will become a requirement to visit in the resident rooms and spaces. If the staff is required to be vaccinated, I firmly believe those visiting should be held to the same standards.
We are moving back toward a place of recovery; a place where we can appreciate the ‘little things’, a place of Hope.
So, grab that Pumpkin Spiced Latte and prepare to snuggle in around a cozy fire; after all, isn’t that really what it’s all about??
Happy October,

Michelle Knobloch, NHA
Chief Executive Officer

William and Pat Woodhead:
a Love Story
Written by Meri Luarasi,
Memory Care Administrator
As Pat, one of our Skilled Nursing residents told Meri Luarasi, "our (Bill and my) love story is uncomplicated, but it is very special to us. We met at work, at Mitchell’s Specialties. They made windows for cars. I did payroll and Bill was a controller. He was friendly with the girls at work and used to chat and joke with them. He had noticed me and had wanted to take me out…I was a beautiful 21-year-old at the time. He was a quiet, a suburban snob from Cheltenham and I was from Kensington.

Our team welcomed fall with an end of summer BBQ. We are so blessed to have such a wonderful staff.
Our team celebrated the one year anniversary of Yates Pavilion w/ coffee & donuts on National Coffee Day!
It is not too late to be a part of our Capital Campaign!

We have reached 70% of our goal of $1.5 million. We encourage all potential and existing donors to explore doubling their gift through their employer’s Matching Gift program. You can give online or call our Development Department for more information at (215) 968-3878 ext. 1112.
