Picking up Steam

Hello CBS,

As we find ourselves halfway through the month of May, it's undeniable that the energy on campus is picking up steam.

This is the time to harness momentum, to channel your focus and determination. As you navigate this final stretch, leverage invaluable resources like office hours and the Academic Assistance and Tutoring Centers to bolster your readiness for exams and assignments. And if you have questions about how to maximize your summer opportunities based on your needs or interests, be sure to check in with the advising teams in the Biology Academic Success Center for all things academic, and Health Professions Advising for all things related to pursuing a health career.

Amidst the flurry of deadlines and study sessions, don’t forget to pause and reflect on the journey you've undertaken over the past year. Each class attended, each assignment completed, each mentored experience, and each interaction with your peers has contributed to your growth and development as a scholar and biologist. With each step you take toward reaching your goals, you honor the valuable learning that has shaped you along the way.

So, let's pick up even more steam and make the most of every opportunity. Your journey is a testament to your strength and determination, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.

What are OTHERS Researching?

Three CBS faculty were recently elected to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS). Congratulations!

Established by an Act of Congress and signed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863, the NAS provides independent, objective advice to the nation on science and technology. So, what does that mean for you as a student? It means you are learning from truly world-class faculty!

What can I DO with my Research?

Science communication is an important component of the research enterprise. Your short talk or “elevator Pitch” must clearly and succinctly describe the context of your scientific work, its importance, and how the results differ from opinion, conjecture, or anecdotal evidence. Here are some examples from the American Society for Cell Biology of effective (and not-so-effective) Science Communication to practice your skills.
