Respect the "X"
Many people say, "the forehand always take the middle?" I don’t agree and say it depends! If the forehand ends up out of position and leaves a gap down the line then it wasn’t a smart move. If the forehand is off balance or leaning too far then the shot mechanics will not be what is expected causing an error or a high ball that will be attacked. Also, if the forehand comes over too far then that leaves the partner blocked with no response or assistance. That’s where “Respect the X” comes into play. Imagine an X across the court. If each player takes the ball in the middle along their line of the X it may be a better choice then the “forehand always takes the middle.” Checkout the two links below and you decide for yourself what works best for you and your partner on the pickleball court.

Open Play Flourishes

Due to the overwhelming number of people playing pickleball at the Bowie Gymnasium the PG Pickleball Club was able to get an extra court. They will now have 8 courts available for open play on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Yay!

Also please note the following from the club president:

1. The adjusted Club playing hours @ the Bowie Gym is now 10.30am - 12.30pm, Tue. and Thurs. Pickleball people will not be allowed to enter the playing area until 10.00am.
The "walkers" will have until 10.00a to complete their exercises. 10.00 - 10:30am will be "setup" time.

2. On Thursdays, courts 1 and 2 (behind the curtain will be set up for Bob's beginner class and other beginners won need help).

We are looking for volunteers to assist BOB and also to HELP with other beginners..
PG Pickleball Club Founder Continues to Share the Game
Carmen Laughery, one of the club founders, was passing on her pickleball knowledge to her daughter-law Greta and Mickey Bartin. Jim Holloman and Deryck (DC) Chase were assisting.

Support "Fire in the Kitchen"
We all love playing pickleball and what's better than playing for a good cause. Eastport Volunteer Fire Company and Station 36 are sponsoring their first pickleball tournament to raise money for programs promoting fire prevention education, safety awareness, and initiatives designed to protect public health.

It will be held on April 2nd. If you can't make it you can still donate to the cause. Click the flyer for more information.There are QR codes for registering and for donating.
Maryland Senior Olympics
The Maryland Senior Olympics will be held May 18-20 at the Tennisplex in Boyds, Md. While this is not a qualifying year it would make great practice for those that did qualify and are heading to Pittsburgh. Registration information will be out shortly.
Bowie Gymnasium 2023 Schedule

Bring your group to the Bowie Gymnasium for play on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday from 10:15am-12:15pm or 12:15pm-2:15pm. There will be a limit of 2 courts per person or group. Use the link to sign-up for play at the Bowie Gymnasium.
Pickleball Schedule for Prince George's County
Stay updated on the places to play pickleball in Prince George's County. There have been no changes in the schedule since last month. Click on the schedule to enlarge. Share with others, or better yet tell them to subscribe to the newsletter.

Highlights/Changes/Additions for the month of March.
  • Driskell Park in Hyattsville: 2 permanent courts.
  • Family Life Center will have NO pickleball on Saturdays from March-August.
  • Southern Regional Technology and Recreation Complex (SRTRC) has added Wednesdays from 10-2pm to their Open Play schedule.
