Picture Day
Every once in a while someone comments that coming for a headshot reminds them of Picture Day at school.
This has made me cringe. I remember that day as being uncomfortable and producing terrible results. Obviously, I don't want my own personal association with Picture Day to be any part of my clients' experience.
Since it's that time of year I thought I'd search 'Picture Day' to see what people think of it today.
I found a fun little article with tips on taking great shots on Picture Day. It translates well to preparing for your grown up business headshots (with a couple caveats).
The article seems to be from a place where parents and kids both have their photos done at school on the same day, so you can glean a bit more adult oriented advice under each tip ... and maybe suggest parent and child photos to your kids' school? Um, no.
Here are the article's 10 tips for taking great shots on Picture Day -
- Get a Good Nights Sleep
- Wear Clothing You feel Comfortable In
- Have You Hair Done
- Wear Light Jewelry*
- Avoid Glare on Your Glasses**
- Be Relaxed and Happy
- Self Care Should Be a Priority
- Check and Analyze Your Previous School Photos
- Take Pictures of Yourselves Before the School Picture Day
- Follow the Directions of the Photographer***
* I think it's perfectly fine to wear big bold jewelry if it makes you feel great!
** NO! Don't pop out the lenses of your glasses. We can retouch glare!
*** YES!
Picture Day at tagPHOTO SODO - October 19th
Locations shoots were so rewarding and fun in July.
I visited a beautiful Maple Valley farm with a menagerie of animals who joined their people for amazing and moving portraits.
I photographed two more families in pretty parks and backyards, a landscape designer in her stunning front yard in Holmes Point and a lovely teen senior portrait at Volunteer Park.
The Puget Sound offers a plethora of perfect backdrops!
Location shoots are designed with your specific needs in mind and priced based on the time involved and number of final images needed.
These shoots start at $550 for an individual and could also be a family, senior or engagement portrait. Yep, I do that, too.
We can work out the details and schedule through email or a call. Let's talk!
If you've made it this far please read on below. I've included one of my favorite testimonials ever, originally posted to LinkedIn as a recommendation.
