Picture Rocks

Cell Tower

Permit Review

Next Tuesday, February 4th

Next Tuesday, February 4th the Pima County Board of Supervisors (PCBS) will review the permit for an 8-story cell tower proposed for Picture Rocks and adjacent Saguaro National Park West. This meeting finalizes a decision whether this unnecessary tower will be constructed.

Support the Picture Rocks Community by attending in person.

PCBS does not recognize participants

who attend, or comments submitted, via Zoom.

Residents are hoping to have 100+ participants in the chambers to emphasize community rejection of this needless tower. You do not need to speak, just show up! The community will be represented by attorney Andrew Campanelli who will voice the projects faults and community concerns to the Board.

Invite a friend, family member, or other concern citizen(s) to attend with you. Community support and in person attendance is crucial

 to defeat the permit request!

See You There!

Meeting Details:

Date: 02/04/25

Time: 9 a.m.

Place: Pima County Administration Building: 130 W. Congress St.

1st Floor, Board of Supervisors Hearing Room, Tucson, AZ 85701

We’ll keep let you know the meetings outcome in next week's newsletter.

FRY's Foods Recycle Program Continues

New Mail-In Recycle

Service Added!

A past LDA newsletter shared Fry’s Food Stores Zero Waste Recycle program. Drop-off bins, located in front of their stores, are there to collect items for recycle such as bubble wrap, plastic overwrap from paper towels, cereal box liners, bread bags, dry cleaning bags, produce bags, newspaper sleeves, plastic shipping envelopes, clean sandwich bags and plastic grocery bags, not accepted by most local curbside services.

This is a great community service, but it gets better. They have now partnered with Teracycle and their Mail-in Recycling Program to recycle their in-store brands packaging such as Kroger®, Simple Truth®, Private Selection® and more! Plus, It’s FREE! Once collected, the flexible plastic packaging is cleaned and melted into hard plastic that can be remolded to make new recycled products, such as park benches and picnic tables.

Watershed Management Group

River Run Network Restoration Workshop

Willow Harvesting in Tanque Verde

The Tanque Verde creek runs west from the base of the Rincon Mountains East of Tucson. Because of the shallow groundwater table at the headwaters, Cottonwood, Willow, and other riparian tree species make this creek their home. In turn, bird, mammal, reptilian and an entire ecosystem have grown along its banks

For this hands-on volunteer workshop, you will work with the Watershed Management Group (WMG) to harvest Seep Willow, Goodding's Willow, and Freemont Cottonwood. These species have the ability to sprout new roots when soaked in water, making them adaptable to floods that frequently occur where they live and evolved.

The harvested plants will be brought to an ongoing river restoration site on the Bobocomari River, a tributary of the San Pedro River.

Join the WMGs Restoration Workshop for a morning in the riparian area using harvest poles, loppers, clippers, and handsaws while learning about ethical harvest techniques and local ecology. Be prepared to have fun and get your feet wet, as (hopefully) the creek will be flowing with winter rains!
