2026 Broward Business & Beyond Conference (BBBC)

The 2026 Broward & Beyond Business Conference welcomed entrepreneurs, business leaders, and professionals from across the region for a day dedicated to innovation, collaboration, and economic growth. Hosted annually by the Broward County Office of Economic and Small Business Development (OESBD), the conference provides attendees with valuable insights, resources, and connections designed to help businesses thrive in an evolving marketplace.

During the event, Film Commissioner Sandy Lighterman took to the stage to highlight the continued growth of Broward County’s film and television industry and the economic opportunities it creates for local businesses and residents. Joining her on stage from the audience was Emerging Filmmaker Grant recipient Bima Mandic, who shared her experience bringing her project, White Shark, to life with support from Film Lauderdale’s Emerging Filmmaker Grant program.

Bima spoke about the impact of receiving support and how programs like the Emerging Filmmaker Grant help independent filmmakers transform creative projects into successful productions while strengthening South Florida’s growing creative economy.

3rd Annual Production Assistant Workshop

Film Lauderdale, in partnership with Film Professor Josh Ellis and BrandStar Studios, recently hosted its 3rd Annual Production Assistant Workshop, providing 20 Broward County residents with hands-on training and practical experience for launching a career in the screen industry.

During the two-day workshop, attendees learned essential entry-level production skills including set protocol, walkie-talkie etiquette, start paperwork, production terminology, departmental responsibilities, union guidelines, set safety, equipment handling, and more. Participants also gained valuable insight into how the Production Assistant role serves as a stepping stone to higher-level positions throughout the industry.

Upon receiving their certificates of completion, graduates will be added to Film Lauderdale’s list of recommended Production Assistants, helping connect local productions with trained Broward County crew members and supporting workforce development within the region’s growing screen industry.
