The Message this Week

Preaching Text: Philippians 1:1-18a


Paul writes a letter from prison. You may be surprised to discover that Paul is not moping about his imprisonment or demanding release. Rather, his imprisonment becomes an opportunity for proclamation of the gospel, including proclaiming to the imperial guard.  Paul reminds us that our faith isn't separate from the things we are experiencing, but our lives are the place in which we proclaim our faith.

Gracious God, thank you for Paul's witness from prison. Help us to see our lives as our proclamation of Christ's love for us. In His name, we pray, Amen.

We had a member alert us that they recieved a phone call from someone claiming to be with Geneva Lutheran Church from "accounts payable". This is SCAM. Please remember that no member of staff or Pastor Trudy will ever call, text, or email you requesting money, gift cards, or account numbers. If you are ever unsure, please call the church the office at 630-232-0165.

• Open our ears to listen for your call, that your love might overflow through us into a world desperately in need of your grace.
• Help us to be grateful for the gift of all that you have made, and committed to its preservation and care.
• Hold us and our leaders accountable to one another that all might live in harmony.
• We pray for all those living with chronic or terminal illness, addiction, grief, or injuries. Aid all medical professionals and caretakers, and bring healing and wholeness to all in need, especially Jim Erickson and Norm Loboda.
• As the witness of your faithful saints has blessed us, so make us a blessing to others, and unite us all in your eternal kingdom.

Hear all our prayers, spoken and unspoken, and gather them into your loving arms, for the sake of our risen savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

THANK YOU! To all who came to the special congregation meeting on Sunday, May 3. There were 89 voting members in attendance (exceeding the requirement of 49). The congregation approved moving forward with the Making Space sanctuary renovation. Our final worship services in the space will be May 16 and 17. Remember, send pictures of your special memories in the sanctuary to Faith Sax by May 11.

Join us May 17, immediately following the 10:30AM service for our annual Congregational Cookout to celebrate the end of our program year! We will enjoy hot dogs from Ream's, and inflatable obstacle course for the kids, and baseball on the front lawn. Volunteers are needed for set up and take down. Contact Michelle Lata with any questions. This will also be our last weekend of worship in the Sanctuary before construction begins!

Before demolition begins, we would like to honor the space that has served us for so many years. Send us your pictures of life events that took place in our Sanctuary to be used in a slideshow that will run Sunday, May 17. Please send them to pictures@genevalutheran.org by next Monday, May 11.
