WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER
While we are doing our part to curb the spread of COVID-19, we miss seeing our amazing volunteers and seniors. We will continue to assess our community’s situation and hope to resume full operations as soon as we feel it is safe to do so. We know that social isolation is real for many of our seniors and now social distancing has made them feel even more lonely. Our volunteer drivers have been busy making phone calls to the seniors on their routes. They have been able to identify those seniors who were in immediate need of assistance and we were able to help. We are overwhelmed with gratitude and want to thank everyone who has reached out in many ways to offer help for our seniors. We can’t wait for the day Pie in the Sky gets back to the warehouse and on the road. We hope you are staying safe and healthy at home.
VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Meet Heidi Nelson. Heidi began volunteering for Pie in the Sky in 2018. She moved to St. Johns County in 2017. What Heidi enjoys most about volunteering is helping people in need. One of her passions is preventing food waste. She appreciates Pie in the Sky's partners Waste Not Want Not and KeHE for allowing Pie in the Sky the opportunity to repurpose food. Additionally, Heidi enjoys helping the nonprofit behind the scenes with technology and anywhere else needed. When Heidi is not volunteering, she enjoys the beach, walking, reading, flying her drone camera, teaching teenagers at camp in the summer, playing guitar or ukulele, singing and going on vacation. We want to thank Heidi for being an awesome volunteer. After a volunteer is greeted and introduced to the Pie family, they meet with Heidi to fill out paperwork. Heidi then enters their information into a program to keep track of volunteer hours. We can't help but smile when Heidi says one of her famous phrases, "What else do we need to do? Why isn't the music on?" We are so proud to have this talented individual (and musician with a wonderful voice) as a part of our Pie in the Sky family. Thank you for all you do, Heidi!
BUILD A BAG FOR SENIORS
When all this is over, our seniors are going to need to replenish their pantries. Next time you order groceries or go to the store, pick up an extra item or two and build a bag for a senior. It's just that easy and it's something everyone can do safely. When the time is right, you can deliver the bags to our warehouse and we will deliver them to our grateful seniors. Items needed include canned goods, soups and broths, grains, legumes, pasta, rice, noodles, tomato and spaghetti sauce, condiments, juice, bread, crackers, cereal, oatmeal, chips, nuts, cookies, baking staples, peanut butter, jelly jam, vinegar, teas and coffee, basic spices, shelf-stable milk, cleaning products, plastic wrap, paper towels, laundry detergent, dish and hand soap, toiletries, and toilet paper. Thank you in advance for your help.
THANK YOU TESORI FAMILY FOUNDATION
We are so honored to have been awarded a most generous gift from our friends at  The Tesori Family Foundation . As an organization known for helping children, some of their programs were affected by the COVID-19 outbreak. Rather than letting the funds for these programs sit idle, the Tesori family and their board elected to put those funds to use in the community, donating a portion to Pie in the Sky to help our vulnerable seniors. We are humbled by the thoughtfulness of The Tesori Family Foundation and so grateful to be the recipient of this generous gift. Thank you for all that you do!
