Living in the Son
Galatians 2:20
Dear Parents,

Last time I introduced you to Oscar and Point of Grace Academy in Kenya. Consider this World Missions: The Sequel. Let me tell you how our school played a role in founding Lutheran schools in Liberia. It happened back in the early ’90’s when we jokingly referred to ourselves as St. Peter’s International School, since we counted students from 9 different countries in our student body.

A young man named Joe Boway talked to our students about his desire to return to his native Liberia to start a Lutheran school. Since clothes were an issue for these kids, he asked us to collect t-shirts, which we did by the hundreds. Joe took our t-shirts to Liberia, started his school, and now, a little over 25 years later, his efforts have grown into 14 Lutheran schools bringing the saving Gospel to over 5,000 students.

I have a pastor friend who always ends his prayers with, “And Lord, help me to stay out of Your way.” It’s truly amazing what He accomplishes through us when we just let Him. Just look at Liberia. The growth in our schools there is astounding. And it all started by the Spirit working through one man.

So what can His Spirit accomplish through us? Get out of His way and find out! When we do, we’re truly

Living in the Son!

Soli Deo Gloria!

This week at St. Peter's
Holy Week
Next week we complete our walk with Jesus to Calvary. Worship with Him on Maundy Thursday as Jesus institut es the Lord’s Supper, on Friday as He takes the sins of the world to the cross and grave, and Easter Sunday, as we celebrate His glorious victory over death and the devil. See the complete list of services, including our 5:00 P.M. Saturday Easter Vigil, in our calendar. Worship Him during this most holy week of the church year.
Ronald McDonald Bags
Sixth grader Brennen West is working with the Ronald McDonald House to fill care bags with snacks & encouragement to be passed out to children receiving treatment at Parkview Regional Medical Center. If you would like to contribute to this project, stop by the table outside the office and pick up bag and instructions or email Brennen at kids.in.action.fw@gmail.com for more information. Deadline for the bags to be filled and returned will be April 23rd.
I LEARN
The countdown is on! In one week our practice tests will be over and I LEARN kicks in for real! The testing window begins on Monday, April 22. Students in grades 3 through 8 take three sections of Language Arts tests and two sections of Math. Fifth graders have an additional Social Studies test while fourth and sixth graders have a Science test. While the testing window lasts for a month, each grade will test for about one week: third and fourth graders testing primarily in the first week (April 22-26), fifth and sixth graders in the second week (April 29-May 3), seventh and eighth graders in the third week (May 6-10), with science and social studies and makeup tests in the last week (May 13-17.) Blessings on your efforts, kids!
School Easter Monday
Remember the phrase, “Pay me now or pay me later.” Having those snow day was nice, but now the bad news – we need to make them up. So, we will have school on Easter Monday, April 22! This actually helps us stay on our I Learn testing schedule. School is not in session on Good Friday.
Shark Fest
Our seventh graders had an interesting Tuesday as they dissected sharks in their Science class. Fortunately, these were not the 8-foot kind, but still good sized at about 2 feet. Mrs. Lunz’ students start with sharks because they have only about 5 basic organs, then move on to frogs, which have all the organs found in the human body. Since frogs are smaller, they require a more delicate touch. Finally, they tackle octopi, the most challenging of all. The good news: nobody got bit! Quite the hands-on experience!
Scrip Plug
Take time to check out the SCRIP article in each week’s Pieces of the Rock. SCRIP is a great way to support our school and help yourself at the same time. By purchasing SCRIP gift cards (it’s easy to do on-line) you are applying part of the profit to our school, and receiving credit for tuition payments. Gift cards can be taken in physical form or downloaded to your phone. Can’t be any easier than that!
Walk with Jesus Easter Event

Sunday, April 14, 2019, noon to 3:00 p.m.

St. Peter’s will host A Walk with Jesus this Sunday, April 14. This one-day event will invite families to experience the events of Holy Week. Designed for parents and children to experience together, you will celebrate Easter in a way you’ll never forget.

Families are asked to sign up for a time to begin the guided tour. Walk-ins are welcome but might require wait time until an opening is available in a tour group. This event is free and open to the public. You can sign up for your time slot (between noon and 3:00 p.m.) in the Ministry Center after worship or on the church website at www.stpetersfw.org .
