Meet Kate Duvall,
Piedmont CASA's New President

"On my first day as the new president of Piedmont CASA, twelve children from our community came into the court system due to reported abuse and neglect in their homes. I watched and listened from the sidelines as the experienced staff at CASA sprang into action. They discussed the cases, developed a plan, and were in court in some of the cases that very afternoon. It could not have been clearer that my decision to join Piedmont CASA had been the right one."

“The Board of Directors and I are so pleased to welcome Kate to Piedmont CASA. She is a relationship-builder, an advocate for children, an active participant in the fight for equity, and a lifelong learner. Her pursuit of excellence in all that she does will guide and support PCASA as we enter this new chapter in our beloved organization's journey. We consider ourselves fortunate to have found such a leader, who embodies the passion for and commitment to children living in foster care.”
----- Rachel S. Lloyd Miller, Chair, Board of Directors
A new study shows that kids with CASA Volunteers are more hopeful. And when kids have hope, outcomes improve. They have more academic success, enhanced well-being, increased self-control, positive social relationships, and optimism -- tools they need to change their story. CASA Volunteers give kids the transformative power of hope.

Interview by Cathy Eberly, retired CASA Supervisor

What is the #1 thing you learned as a CASA Volunteer?

How resilient kids really are despite the trauma they have endured. It was easy to see their strengths and potential, and it was gratifying to watch their treatment teams wrap resources around them to help them succeed.

What surprised you most about your CASA work?

How collaborative the treatment teams really are, and how much CASA Volunteers are considered part of the team...
