As you know, the Conservancy is committed to communicating openly with our supporters as we work to chart the best possible course for the SS United States’ future given the constraints of our ongoing litigation with the ship's pier operator, Penn Warehousing. This week the Conservancy participated in a court-ordered confidential mediation following our motion to extend the deadline to move the ship due to our landlord's alleged misconduct. Progress toward addressing a range of issues was achieved, but additional time is needed to achieve an amicable resolution of this ongoing dispute. As such, Judge Anita Brody has issued an order temporarily suspending the deadline for the removal of the vessel from Philadelphia's Pier 82 pending continued negotiations between the parties.
Our efforts in the days ahead will continue to center on conducting good faith negotiations with Penn Warehousing and advancing our educational and curatorial mission. We remain steadfast in our determination to ensure that the legacy of America’s Flagship endures and inspires for future generations.
