This week we're highlighting another neat apple - the Grime's Golden! Grime's Golden is widely believed to be the parent of the Golden Delicious. Just like the Golden Delicious, the Grime's Golden is a wonderful sweet and crunchy multipurpose eating and baking apple. But the Grime's Golden has something that the Golden Delicious lacks- a rich spicy flavor which makes it superior - especially in an apple pie or apple crisp! Grab a quart this weekend and fill your house with the delightful fragrance of a fresh baked apple treats!
Salvaterr'a full line-up for the week includes: lettuce mix, arugula, kale (green curly, red curly, tuscan), collards, head lettuce, scallions, red beets, carrots, hakurei turnips, cabbage, broccoli, sweet onions, red potatoes, gold potatoes, slicing heirloom and cocktail tomatoes, eggplant, cilantro, parsley, dill, poblanos, jalapeños, bell peppers, sweet Italian frying peppers (red and yellow), and butternut squash, apples and pears.

Purple, orange or white… take your pick of cauliflower color this week at Phillips Farms. Purple cauliflower gets its beautiful hue from the presence of the antioxidant anthocyanin, which is also found in red cabbage and red wine. Orange cauliflower has extra beta-carotene and Vitamin A stored in its florets, giving it its orange color. All colors of cauliflower are extremely healthy and nutritious, are naturally high in fiber and B-vitamins, and provide essential antioxidants and phytonutrients.
The early fall harvest means plenty of amazing fruits at Phillips Farms, including Seedless Grapes (the last of the season), Asian Pears, Bartlett Pears, and many Apple varieties including Honeycrisp, Gala, Gingergold, Fuji, McIntosh, Ambrosia, Crimson Crisp, Jonagold, Cortland, Golden Delicious, Cameo and Empire. Vegetables this week: Spaghetti squash, honeynut squash, butternut squash, acorn squash, fennel, spinach, leeks, cauliflower, broccoli, arugula, lettuce, radishes, corn, Jersey tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, eggplant, brussels sprouts, celery, green beans, carrots, kale, swiss chard, beets, onions, potatoes, garlic, fresh herbs and more.
Have you tried their Honeycrisp variety of Apple Cider yet? …. Soooo good! And don’t forget the fragrant Eucalyptus bunches.

|
The apple list is growing and this cool, crisp weather begs for a hot apple pie! You'll find Fuji, Crimson Crisp, Crimson Gold, Cortland Empire, Honeycrisp, Gala, Macintosh, and your manager's favorite - Macoun! If you prefer to drink your apples, the fresh pressed cider is magnificent (ice cold, or warmed will mulling spices). You'll also find beautiful Bartlett pears, plums, watermelon, tomatoes, canary melons, winter squash and more.

October is here! And that means that these will be your last few weeks to bring home a Holy Cow bouquet. As the temperatures drop the blooms will one-by-one go dormant, and when our first hard frost arrives that will be the end of the season for flowers. While we will be sad to see the blooms go away for the winter, their seasonality is one of the things that makes local flowers so special! The farmers will be hard at work these next few weeks to protect crops from light frost, so there will be plenty of beautiful blooms to choose from for now. But enjoy them while you can!

Breakaway Farms
It's Brat Season!
The kids are successfully back in school, the hoodies have finally returned and pumpkin flavored everything is on the menu.
As team Breakaway rolls into autumn, they have started thinking about sausages, specifically Bratwursts. (OK, truth be told, they’re always thinking about sausages. It’s kind of their thing).
However, ‘tis the season to reach back to their German roots for some sausage inspiration. You might call this season OktoberFest, but team Breakaway is calling it OktoberWURST! And in celebration they're introducing 5 different bratwursts! Each week for the next month they’ll debut a new flavor for you to try. They already have 2 of the brats ready for you!
Lemon Currywurst: a fine grind brat that’s flavored with their very own curry powder & warming spices like cardamom and lemon zest. Try it poached in salted water or beer and served with brown butter noodles and braised purple cabbage!
Also, this week, try their OktoberFest Brat. It’s a double grind brat that’s flavored with fresh garlic and sage. A crusty roll and a good German mustard are all that’s needed to enjoy this bratwurst.
Next week, they'll introduce their Harvest Brat (psst, it has pumpkin spice flavors!), followed by their German Beer Brat and wrapping up with Nürnberger Bratwurst using a recipe that’s over 700 years old! So come to market, grab some bratwursts and enjoy this season in the best way possible! Prost!
