Dear Friends,

Thank you to all who responded to the survey I sent out asking input regarding an outdoor in-person worship. Given your responses, this Sunday, September 27, we shall have a pilot outdoor worship at 9am in front of the church under the patio covering. Reservations are required.

As always, the 10am online recorded worship will be through our St Francis Facebook page and via the website.

Communion Under Special Circumstances will also be offered at 11, 11:15 and 11:30AM. (NOTE: not 11:45AM). You must RSVP for this too - see details below.

Under the circumstances, we are creatively and lovingly doing the best we can for the safety and care of our parish family. For the 9:00 a.m. pilot outdoor Sunday worship please note the following:

  • You may bring your own lounge chairs but we shall have available, clean, sanitized chairs also.
  • You must wear a face mask covering your mouth and nose.
  • The seating area will be marked with mandatory 6 foot distancing strips and signage.
  • The 4 stone benches on the perimeter of the patio will be marked for household units.
  • Signage will facilitate where to stand for Holy Communion.
  • At this time, communion will be wafers only.
  • Hand sanitizer stations and extra masks will be available.
  • If you have a cough or do not feel well then take care of yourself and stay at home.
  • The parish hall restrooms will be open. Please use the spray sanitizer after use.
  • Ushers will be available at the entrances for directions and questions.

I am so sorry but at this time, we cannot sing, and are not allowed inside the church as mandated by health agencies, the local and state government and the diocese.

Seeing one another in person will be an extra grace!

Please RSVP to me so we can mark off the mandatory 6 feet distancing spaces appropriately. Text – 310 995 6519 or click here to email me. Please indicate the number coming: one or if you are a household or social bubble unit and how many that includes.

We are in this together! God is holding us together in the power of faith, hope and love!

With love and care and looking forward to seeing and worshiping with you!

Rector St Francis Episcopal Church
Dean of Deanery 8

The Blessing of Pets
St Francis Day, October 4, at 12:30 in the lower parking lot!
Please bring a photo of your pet, or your pet in-person, and drive into the lower parking lot, for a drive-through blessing! Then, if you would like, park your cars and either leave your pet in the car for a little while or bring them out on a leash or in a cage, and enjoy some fellowship with other parishioners at a table socially distanced, with face masks covering mouth and nose. Bring your lunch or a snack or just hang around for a few moments! Let us celebrate how Francis loved people and animals! Happy St. Francis Day!
Taizé Service of Wholeness and Healing
This Tuesday - September 29, 7:00 p.m. on Facebook
David and Femi Knight bring you their thoughtful and beautiful music and harmonies to give you half an hour of gentle meditation. Rev. Paula introduces our service and leads us with Scripture and prayers for healing. You have nothing to do except perhaps light a candle for the healing of the world, and then sit back and let God be God. Peace to all!
Be together - 5 days a week, as well as Sundays.
Morning prayer twice-weekly, led by Paula+, and Compline three times per week, led by Jude+ and a team of lay leaders. Each service includes the traditional service, plus words from the leader, and explanations of the readings. They are prayerful and quiet, a far cry from the turmoil of the world, and medicine to help us heal and be comforted and inspired.

Come to Bible Study: ISAIAH
Tuesday, September 29, 7-8:30pm [on zoom]

Class #3: Ch 40-55, sometimes called Second Isaiah.
All are Welcome!!! If this would be your first class, click here to email Jude for the zoom link. We will look at the 4 “Servant Songs” and ask:
  • What might these texts have meant to its first hearers?
  • How do these texts reflect hope and where do we see that today?
  • Is Israel or Jesus the ‘servant?’
  • How have these texts been interpreted in music?

Thank you, St Francis!
From Jeannie Cobb

Clayton and I have just returned from three weeks at our daughter’s house, supporting that family as they have welcomed newborn Evangeline Lucy into their circle. What a blessing it has been to be there, and to serve them and help care for “Evie’s” two older sisters. The time flew by.

Now that we are back, I want to say an enormous “Thank you!” to the members of St Francis who have written us beautiful notes of well wishes, given us gifts, and contributed to the generous Thank You check we received. This is a most loving and giving family, and it has been our privilege to be with you for the last almost 8 years. I pray for the healing of us all, the ability to once again gather together, and the growth of ministry from each person’s home in the meantime. Maybe we will all learn something about every-day, every place ministry as we continue to be present digitally and imagine what the future of St Francis can be. I know you are blessed with dedicated and wise leadership who will guide you.

May God’s many blessings be palpable and show you the way.
Thank you for your support and friendship.
