ell us about your business.
Epic Vision’s owner, Dr. Ryan Hiesterman, grew up in the small town of Washington, KS. He attended Kansas State University before completing his Doctorate of Optometry degree at the Oklahoma College of Optometry in 2003. Dr. Hiesterman started his own optometry practice in Clay Center, KS in 2004. As the practice grew, Dr. Hiesterman faced similar struggles that all private practice medical professionals were facing; specifically, navigating the increasing cost and difficulties of the health care laws and insurance changes. He also observed the lack of new doctors coming out of school who were interested in taking over ownership of practices of retiring doctors, mostly due to the increasing challenges in health care and the rising costs of pursuing a professional doctorate degree education. This lack of interest was especially common in more rural areas.
Epic Vision was formed in 2013 as a business model that created a backbone of support for small optometry offices. This support helps individual offices handle the increasing difficulties in the health care system and serves to attract doctors to these rural practices that may have otherwise been forced to close. Being from small town Kansas, Dr. Hiesterman is passionate about rural areas continuing to have convenient access to quality medical eye care. They currently have nine locations- six of which are located in smaller rural towns and eight are staffed with native
Kansas optometrists.
