A Weekly Newsletter from Pine Street Church
A Word from Andrew...
Dear Pine Street Church Members and Friends,

It's a momentous day, as we launch our first-ever worship Live Stream from the Pine Street Church sanctuary. Tune in at 10am MST via YouTube Live.

The message today will be based on the Gospel of Mark (8:27-38).

Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the brilliant young theologian who was martyred and executed by Hitler for opposing him, wrote a year before his death to his student and friend Eberhard Bethge: “What keeps gnawing at me is the question, 'What Christianity, or who is Christ actually for us today?'”

That line, written in a Nazi cell, is a shorthand proclamation of Bonhoeffer’s penetration to the deepest question about the human condition, which raised, for a serious Christian, an equally grave question about Jesus Christ and the tradition that takes its name from him.

“Who is Christ actually for us today?”

Answering this question is no simple task. Today we will together begin to answer it in fresh ways. Always beginning again in our lifelong calling to follow God in the way of Jesus.

With heart,
Andrew

For What Purpose?

Looking at human behavior, it's clear what we value most. We pursue any thing or experience that we believe will bring us happiness, status, security, distraction, comfort, and escape from the mundane. But for what purpose? Do any of these pursuits bring deep and lasting satisfaction? Is there any thing more behind these pursuits other than the sensations we believe they bring us?

In this new series, we examine human behavior in all of its extremes, as well as what we call normal, to discover our deepest motivations and desires. By looking closely at our culture's past and present, and the art produced in response to it, we will attempt to understand ourselves better, and perhaps choose a different set of priorities.
