A Win for Arizona's Farmers, Families, and Future

We are so thrilled that SB 1245, the Arizona-Grown Fruit and Vegetable Incentive bill , passed and was signed by Governor Ducey! The bill appropriates funds from the Arizona State general fund to be used to uplift local Arizona farmers and our Arizona economy by providing funding for a produce incentive program for SNAP participants so they can purchase locally-grown produce items at participating farmers markets, farm stands, community supported agriculture (CSA) sites, and grocery stores.

It's a win-win-win for Arizona!

We thank all the community leaders and everyone who supported the bill. It would not have been possible without you!

Did you make goals for yourself in January? How are you doing so far? For many, the beginning of a new year is for reflection, change, and setting goals. Oftentimes these goals focus on maintaining healthier lifestyles, like changing what we eat or how our bodies look and feel. Sometimes however, the expectations we set for ourselves and the ways we go about reaching them can be unrealistic and ultimately unhealthy. For many women, maintaining a positive body image is a constant challenge.

Arizona-Grown Fruit and Vegetable Incentive Bill Sent to Governor for Signing

The bill was introduced in the Arizona Legislature on January 18th, 2018. SB 1245 appropriates $400,000 of the state general funds to the Arizona Department of Economic Security, the SNAP implementing agency in Arizona, for the administration of a produce incentive program for SNAP enrollees to purchase Arizona-grown fruits and vegetables.

It's not often you hear bipartisan support at the state Capitol to increase spending on social welfare. But it's happening. Supporters say the program will provide low-income Arizonans with more nutritional food and boost the bottom lines for local farmers.
