Where are you from?
"I grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina where I lived until two years ago when we moved to Ames, Iowa for my husband to pursue his Ph.D program at Iowa State."
What does FAS mean to you?
"Both of my parents are from the Philippines, but they wanted me and my sisters to assimilate to U.S. culture. Although my parents spoke Tagalog at home and served authentic dishes, I didn't grow up with a Filipino community (outside of family), nor did I learn the language or much about the culture.
FAS not only helps me connect to my culture, but also allows me to celebrate it with a warm community of fellow Filipinos! I was welcomed into FAS with open arms and it's great to be surrounded by people who work to empower Filipinos while promoting the culture."
What's something you enjoy doing in your spare time?
"With a 5 month old, my hands are pretty full. But I love reading, writing, scrapbooking, and trying new recipes (to cook and eat!)"
What's your go-to karaoke song?
"I didn't inherit the Filipino singing gene, but with a little liquid courage I can have a lot of fun belting out 'It's All Coming Back to Me Now (Celine Dion) or I Don't Want to Miss a Thing (Aerosmith) Anything by Britney Spears is also a lot of fun.
