"Screenagers" Viewing Comes to Pierz
How much time does your child engage with gadgets?
On average, youth spend 6.5 hours per day in front of a screen, more than 3X the recommendation for youth 5-17 years old.
If this fact concerns you, you are not alone. This past school year, a group of Pierz teachers and staff have been discussing and researching the negative impact the use of cellphones and other electronic devices are having on student’s ability to concentrate in the classroom as well as interact with one another socially. They wanted to find resources to help teachers, parents and students with this issue.

"Screenagers: Growing Up In The Digital Age" is an award winning film that showcases how families are struggling to combat the overuse of social media and video games and how it is affecting academics and our social/emotional health. The film offers solutions on how we can help our kids navigate the digital world. It does a great job of both presenting the brain research surrounding this topic and giving real life examples of what parents/teachers have tried and found to be successful strategies that can balance the use of technology to most benefit not only kids but adults as well.

The Pierz School District will be hosting 2 showings of this documentary prior to the 2018-19 school year. They are hoping to jumpstart the conversation surrounding this issue, provide tools and resources for parents and other caregivers, and work together to create a more fully engaged and healthy learning environment at school and at home.

What's the Buzz?

First place in Sportsmanship for these boys!
As you may have heard, the 14U travel baseball team won their state championship and took home the gold for their stellar skills. However, this outstanding team has given us an even better reason to celebrate. While attending the MSF State Championship tournament in August, in addition to winning the state title, they also received an award from Youth 1st. Youth 1st is a non profit group that promotes conduct, character and community at youth events.

Throughout the MSF baseball tournament, umps, coaches and fans could report the sportsmanship of players, coaches, parents and fans. Players and parents of the Pierz 14U travel team were recognized for their positive behavior and attitudes!

The goal is to give families an atmosphere where children have the opportunity to participate in activity programs that encourage them to be active, build relationships and develop into the best version of themselves.

Youth are learning from the adults leading them. The Youth 1st Team Awards program recognizes good sportsmanship and positive conduct from players, coaches, parents and fans.

Join them in celebrating and accepting their award Tuesday, August 21 at 7:30pm at Hellie Field.

Champions on and off the field representing Pierz and our community! Way to go!
