Snow Day gives way to new eLearning protocol
With school canceled for the second Snow Day this week, Pierz Schools staff, and families were able to debut the new eLearning format for the first time. By implementing this plan, interruption to learning is less and make-up days won't need to be added on at the end of the school year.
With only a few glitches, the eLearning day seemed to be an overall success. Students in grades K-4 could access their teacher-created folders at home or on the district website, and students in 5-12 could log into their Google Classroom for the day's assignments. This process will continue to be refined, and we thank all the staff for their hard work on this new process as well as the families and students for working through it.

Healy holiday dress-up days
During the twelve school days leading up to Christmas, the Healy High School student council put together a dress-up theme day for each of the days. So far students have had Christmas hat and boots day, pajama day, fuzzy festive sock day, 'mad about plaid' day, blue and white day, and red and white stripe day. Students are also competing in the holiday "Door Decorating' contest, where they deck the classroom doors for the season.
Next week's theme will finish up with the all-out 'festive holiday wear' day—we can't wait to see what that brings!

Travel Club's 'Holidate' sitting service a success
Students in Travel Club recently offered their expertise sitting services during their 'Holidate' fundraiser. For a nominal fee, parents could drop their kids off with this fun group for a night of holiday games, movies, activities, snacks, and a pizza party. All funds raised go toward their summer 2024 Ireland trip.

Healy's Minnesota Honor Society collects, shops for toy drive
The Pierz Minnesota Honor Society hosted a Penny War challenge for grades 7-12 to collect donations for the local Toy Drive. Students and staff were motivated, and donated over $2100, with the winning Pioneer Time homeroom earning a pizza party (congratulation's to Mr. Poepping's Pioneer Time 7th graders!). Change buckets were also placed in town at local businesses to also collect funds for the Toy Drive. The businesses collected nearly $600 in total donations for the Toy Drive. Thanks to the big hearts of our Pierz community, MHS collected over $2700 to shop for the Toy Drive. Thank you!
Distribution for families in need will be Monday, December 19 at the Pioneer Elementary gym from 4:30-6:30pm. Please contact Michelle Ferguson with any questions regarding distribution or if you are a family in need this holiday season: mferguson@pierzschools.org or x2216.

Pioneer PRIDE Award for Middle School
Recognizing and rewarding students living out Pioneer PRIDE
Each month, teachers have the opportunity to recognize and nominate students from each grade in 5-8. The selected students are then narrowed down to just two recipients of the Pioneer PRIDE award from each grade. Each month, we will feature the winners from each grade.
Perseverance Respect Integrity Discipline (self) Empathy
These are five of the characteristics our students strive to exhibit throughout the day here at Pierz Schools. Teachers are encouraged to nominate students each month whom they feel are strong leaders among their peers using these character traits. A committee of teachers, counselors, and administrators then choose two students from each grade as recipients of the PRIDE award. Students get their choice of Subway or Red’s for lunch, a sign for their locker, and have their names and pictures displayed in the hallways. Congratulation to ALL the nominees!
