Junior High Service Day
As part of their junior high service project, each year 7th and 8th grade students spend the afternoon helping our their fellow Pierz residents. Various community members and families indicated they needed some help--and our students were happy to oblige! Last week, students walked the city, raking, bagging, and hauling leaves for more than 28 residents that needed a helping hand. They also cleaned up the community garden. Thank you students, staff, and community members for working together on this project. Please call the school if you or someone you know (within the city of Pierz) would like to get on the 'help me' list for next year.

Breaking Out of Math
Students in Mrs. Andres' math classes used their critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills to 'break out' and solve the problem using BreakoutEdu lock boxes. Teams were given clues, stories, random numbers, and decoders to try and solve.

**Meet the Team**
(Find out what makes Pierz Schools so successful--our employees!)
This week, we are featuring our teachers who are in their 2nd year of teaching. Do they love their chosen career? Regret it? Find out...
Ms. Jackie Caughey
"Hello! My name is Jackie Caughey and I am a second year teacher here at Pioneer Elementary. I teach fourth grade and just love the age of those students. They amaze me with their resilience, patience, work ethic, kind hearts and humor each day. Sometimes I think we could all learn a thing or two from a nine or ten year old!

I knew Pierz to be an awesome, caring community and boy, has my admiration grown for this place in the past year since starting here! The community itself has been so inclusive and welcoming. I also really can’t say enough about the staff here in the district." More about Ms. Caughey
Ms. Elizabeth Tomala
"Hello, I am Elizabeth Tomala, a 1 st  grade teacher here at Pioneer Elementary. I love teaching 1 st  grade because it is so remarkable how much of these students grow in reading. I am lucky to aid and experience their growth and successes as readers. I have found my calling in 1 st  grade!

This is my second year at Pioneer and I am so happy to be back in my hometown! I was born and raised in the Pierz community. The Pierz community is special to me because of its care and support for one another. When someone is in need or in poor health, the community steps up to lend a helping and loving hand. I have experienced this first hand when my brother battled cancer."
Ms. Collette Loch
"Hi there! My name is Collette Loch, and I teach 7th grade English Language Arts here at Pierz Healy High School. I also coach the Speech team. I grew up in St. Cloud, Minnesota and Graduated from St. Cloud Tech High School.

I will forever be grateful for the opportunity I have been given here as a Pierz Pioneer! Although this is only my second year, I already feel at home. I could not have asked for a better beginning to my teaching career, and it is 100% due to the incredible staff, supportive community, and inspiring students I get to work with every day!" Over the river and through the woods..

Pumpkins: from Healy to Pioneer
Third graders decorated pumpkins that were grown and harvested by the ag students in the community garden. Some were spooky and some were silly! Thank you for the pumpkins, Healy ag students!
**Student Spotlight**
Featuring students in grades 4-12 selected by their teachers for being awesome humans.
We wish we could feature ALL our hard-working students!
Jeffrey Korte, 4th Grade
Nominated by Mr. Kruse: "Jeffery is awesome to have in class, he is always well behaved and brings a ton of excitement and enthusiasm to the classroom. He is always a great member of the choir!" Congratulations, Jeffrey; keep up the great work!
Alex Gross, Senior
Nominated by Mrs. Billie Jo Kimman: "I would like to nominate Alex because I have been very impressed with his compassion for his classmates. This is a side of Alex that I had not had the pleasure of witnessing until this year. Alex has been helping out in my classroom, and I see him engaging with the other students with both patience and compassion. He will go out of his way to offer support and encouragement. He shows interest in what they have to say, but also challenges them in a way that is kind and non-judgmental. He does all of this so naturally. Alex has such a kind heart that I think is often unrecognized. I have been truly impressed with who he is as a student, a classmate, and a person!" Fly high, Alex!
