January News + Updates

Pioneer Square Business Stakeholders -

Thank you for your ongoing dedication to making Pioneer Square the most engaging, welcoming neighborhood in Seattle. Stakeholders in every corner of our district continue to display unmatched resiliency and strength, all while building community with neighbors and visitors alike. Looking back on 2023, I am incredibly proud of the Pioneer Square community, what you were able to accomplish over this last year, and where we are now.

2024 is shaping up to be an exciting and eventful year. We will continue to see high levels of investment in the district in both the public and private sector. From the Pioneer Square East West Pedestrian Improvements project to the upcoming opening of some highly anticipated redevelopments, the year will be filled with milestones. The Alliance will continue to strive to ensure businesses in Pioneer Square have the tools, resources, and support they need to prosper over the next year.

As an organization, the staff and board are committed to supporting you through 2024 and beyond. We do so by:

• Collaborating to create community, foster connections, and balance the needs of the neighborhood;

• Advocating to address neighborhood issues, steward thoughtful infrastructure management, and preserve the character of Pioneer Square; and

• Communicating key information to neighborhood stakeholders to ensure all are aware of the latest resources and can navigate city, county, and

state processes.

Thank you for your role in Pioneer Square’s storied history – each and every one of you make this a better place. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me or any of the Alliance team at info@pioneersquare.org if you need anything or would simply like to have a conversation.

Sincerely,

Lisa Dixon Howard

Construction on the East-West Pedestrian Improvements Project is Underway

Construction is currently taking place on S Main St between Alaskan Way S and 1st Ave S. It is anticipated work will begin on S Washington St between Alaskan Way S and 1st Ave S in the next few weeks. The work in these first two zones is expected to take about four months to complete. During this time, there is no vehicle access to S Main and S Washington streets between Alaskan Way S and 1st Ave S. Pedestrian access to all businesses will be maintained. The entirety of the construction is projected to last approximately one year. We will send more information out as to the next zones that will be underway as soon as we know from the contractors.

See the map and view Waterfront Seattle's construction flyer for more detailed information on access and impacts. The construction work is being completed in phases to minimize impacts to the neighborhood. You will see construction move into new zones every few months throughout the next year.

If you live or work in the area, filling out the project contact form ensures you receive time-sensitive construction notifications specific to your location. For construction updates that include impacts in Pioneer Square, not specific to any building, sign up for the weekly Waterfront Seattle construction email.

Neighborhood Spotlight: Bodytonic Pilates

This month, we're spotlighting Bodytonic Pilates, a BIPOC, woman-owned and operated Pilates studio. The studio offers private, small group, and virtual classes, with a studio culture rooted in inclusivity, health, empowerment, and mindfulness.

Owner Nadia Rodriguez says their approach to movement is based on classical Pilates, contemporary Pilates methods, evidence-based movement theory, and individual and community public health theory. "Our goals are to meet the client's needs in the most supportive and encourage way possible. We also seek to dismantle toxic attributes that have historically dominated fitness culture," she says.

Founded in 2005, Nadia always loved the urban and historic vibes that Pioneer Square gives. Additionally, being in the downtown corridors makes it a public transportation hub and a convenient stop for before or after work workouts. If you’re considering incorporating more movement into your daily routine this year, Pilates is a great option to consider.

“Pilates is a movement and mindfulness practice that addresses the body and mind holistically,” Nadia says. “A Pilates practice will help you develop strength, mobility, and proprioception. It will also enhance your mind-body awareness, which will, in turn, reduce stress.”

Bodytonic Pilates is currently offering an introductory special for first time clients. Offer expires Jan 31, 2024.
