Figure | Ground Art Gallery is a brand new gallery in the Pioneer Square located in the Scientific Building at 122 S. Jackson St.

Figure | Ground Art Gallery recently celebrated its grand opening on July 1st and is open by appointment, or on regular walk-in days.

Coffee Breaks and Public Art
in Occidental Square
Join us on every second Wednesday of the month from 10a-12p under the pavilion in Occidental Square for a coffee break. Share warm beverages from local vendors, listen to local and live music, get to know your neighbors, and learn about what’s happening in Pioneer Square. 

This will be a fun late morning get together to mingle with friends new and old, enjoy delicious drinks, and reconnect with one of the greatest neighborhoods in Seattle. Take a moment from your day to step outside and get to know your Pioneer Square.

Save the date, rain or shine. It’s Coffee Break in Occidental Square time.
Supporting a Safe & Welcoming Downtown
As Pioneer Square sees the return of more workers, visitors and tourists, the City of Seattle wants to ensure a safe, welcoming and positive experience. To help reconnect workers and visitors to downtown, the City is spearheading two Welcome Back Weeks in July (12th-24th) and September (13th-25th). 

During the first week of each two-week period, the City will have a pop up event in Occidental Square featuring live music, giveaways, refreshments, activities, and more. 
Passport to Pioneer Square
Alicia Keys tickets, Sounders FC seats, and a once-in-a-lifetime helicopter cruise of the Puget Sound.

These prizes and more are up for grabs as part of the Passport to Pioneer Square. Simply pick up a passport at a neighborhood spot (or print it out at home), snap your best photo, post it on social, and you’re on your way to your next big adventure in Seattle’s historic neighborhood.

Support Local Pioneer Square Marketplace
On the Pioneer Square Marketplace site, shoppers can view curated selections of products and purchase directly from Pioneer Square boutique retailers, restaurants, bars, art galleries, salons and more.

Businesses can also feature gift cards for purchase. The site includes a restaurant directory takeout/delivery function that links customers directly to Pioneer Square restaurants for easy ordering of takeout or delivery. The takeout section is a convenient way to help customers order food and support their favorite local restaurants through one online location.

The Support Local - Pioneer Square Marketplace has been updated to include new features to ensure business owners can navigate the site easier, including a new login page, a new registration page and business profile page (example).

As of June 30th, Lumen Field's Muckleshoot Plaza is re-open for neighbors to use.

This follows Governor Jay Inslee removing all COVID guidelines and protocols on June 30th. While there will be a few days of closure due to a scheduled roof project, the plaza area is open for the public and their pets.
Virtual Neighborhood Webinars
Join the Alliance for Pioneer Square, RecologySeattle Public Utilities, and Waste Management Seattle on Wednesday, July 14th from 12:00-1:00p for an update on garbage collection, recycling and yard/food waste. RSVP here

De-Escalation Training with the Metropolitan Improvement District
Join the Metropolitan Improvement District (MID) and the Seattle Police Department (SPD) for a one and a half hour de-escalation training on August 17th from 10:30a-12p.

The MID/SPD de-escalation training is going to be in-depth training program that teaches you how to recognize, reduce and manage aggressive behavior. Over the course of the presentation, the MID will provide effective and compassionate methods of handling anxious or aggressive people, as well as increase confidence and introduce skills that can be used during threatening situations. Members of SPD will also present on personal safety techniques and field individualized questions from attendees.

Please note:
  • Class size will be limited to a maximum of 15 participants to ensure a meaningful experience for all participants. Registration will be first come, first served. Registration is available to those affiliated with a Pioneer Square Business
  • Due to limited class size, participation will be limited to one person from any business.
  • Once we reach the maximum number of participants, we will maintain a waitlist and notify you if a space becomes available.

Please note this training is open to Pioneer Square business employees and residents only.
Survey: Pioneer Square Mural Theme
The Alliance for Pioneer Square is working on an upcoming permanent mural project, and we need your input!

Please take this survey to express which mural theme you would most like to see reflected in a brand-new permanent mural located in Pioneer Square. Please note that results of this survey may influence the design direction; however, final mural design may evolve as project implementation continues. 

This survey should only take a couple of minutes to complete. The survey closes on Thursday, July 15th at 11pThank you for your feedback on this exciting project!

Port of Seattle
2021 Cruise Season Schedule
The Port of Seattle has released its projected 2021 cruise schedule.

The season is slated to start on Monday, July 19 when Royal Caribbean’s Serenade of the Seas departs Pier 91. The season’s last departure is from Norwegian Cruise Line’s Encore at Pier 66 on Saturday, October 23.

A total of 83 sailings operated by seven cruise lines are on the schedule. Additionally, cruise ships begin arriving for testing and preparations in Elliott Bay as early as Tuesday, June 29.
2021 Rethink Waste Grants
by Waste Management and Seattle Public Utilities
 
Waste Management, in partnership with Seattle Public Utilities, will award a total of $10,000 in grant funding to small businesses and community organizations to implement 2021 ReThink Waste projects. The goal of the ReThink Waste grant is to support projects that encourage waste prevention and/or increase recycling and compost sorting. We are looking to award funding in the range of $500 to $5,000 per project. Visit the Waste Management website to apply.

We have received a large volume of applications. Due to funding limitations, the Broken Window and Façade Improvement Fund is currently paused. The Alliance is seeking additional funding to continue this program. Please check back here for updates. 
Neighborhood Construction Updates
Waterfront Seattle Construction Ongoing on New Alaskan Way

Waterfront Seattle continues building the new Alaskan Way. Following the shift of vehicle traffic east, onto the newly rebuilt roadway between S King and Columbia streets in mid-December, construction to build the new roadway now continues on the west side of Alaskan Way. Activities include mobilizing equipment, potholing work, breaking pavement, excavation and utility installation. Work hours are Monday through Friday 7 AM to 5 PM with occasional overnight and weekend work.

Pioneer Square
Areaways Program

SDOT recently completed safety inspections of the Pioneer Square areaways. This was a multi-year effort to inventory and inspect the 146 active areaways within the district.

Thank you to all the building owners and property managers who facilitated access for the inspectors.

Curb lane restrictions will remain in place while SDOT continues to monitor, evaluate, and strengthen the areaway street walls throughout Pioneer Square.

WSDOT is working to ensure that the interstate continues to perform at its best for as long as possible, preserving I-5 through regular inspections and preventative maintenance, along with months-long construction projects.
