Increased transparency for water customers in Murray-Darling Basin
|
|
On 1 July 2020, changes to the water charge rules in the Murray-Darling Basin will come into effect. The changes were announced by the Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources on 3 April 2019, based on advice provided by the ACCC in 2016.
The new rules provide transparency for customers of monopoly water infrastructure operators by requiring them to include certain charges on their schedule or bill. The rules also set limits on termination fees that may apply to customers exiting an irrigation network.
An example schedule of charges has been developed showing the content that must be included under the amended rules and is avalailable, along with further information, on the ACCC website
here.

Completing the survey will provide information on how the changes are working, and whether future changes to the Award should be called for. Take the survey

… and here’s some media comment on the topic:

Fruit company Piñata Farms has to pay its workers an extra 15 per cent to pick mangoes at night.
(ABC Rural: Daniel Fitzgerald)
Farmers and some workers say they are losing money because of changes to the award wage for casual horticultural employees. Since April 2019 farmers have had to pay their casual workers overtime rates if they worked more than 38 hours a week (averaged out over an eight-week period), along with penalty rates to those working more than 12 hours a day or night-shifts.

Cycling’s Tour de France has added leading French olive oil brand Puget as an official supplier. The agreement will come into effect for the 2020 edition of the historic race, which passes through the south-east region of France where Puget was founded.
We assume they’re supplying olive oil to the riders and support teams … but then again, it’s probably a great bike lubricant too!

Challenging: The Axarquia’s green olive oil provides very low profits.
The museum in Velez Malaga is hosting a series of activities in honour of the local olive oil. For the third consecutive year, the municipality is hosting the ‘Oil Month’, that pays homage the green olive oil of Periana.

Marco Martino, oil sommelier.
While his wine counterparts sniff and swirl in search of the best varietals and bouquet, Marco Martino is doing the same, but with extra virgin oil instead of an old or new world wine. The Singapore-based Italian is among a rare breed of olive oil sommeliers - yes, there's actually such a thing - certified by the Associazione Italiana Sommelier dell'Olio since 2016.
