Dear Gardeners,
Welcome to the new families who have recently joined us in the garden, and thank you to all the gardeners who make this special place so welcoming.

Our gardening
GIY Series
begins on Saturday, June 15th from 10am to 11am with "It's All in the Soil: What's Feeding Your Plants!" Learn the basics of what living organisms are present in soil, and explore the importance of mulch, compost, amendments, and even compost teas in your garden!

Local resident and Pitney volunteer Chris Cameron is a well-known soil enthusiast, consummate learner, and passionate about all things growing! Beginner and experienced gardeners will find this class invaluable. No fee, but donations gratefully accepted.
Registration
preferred.
New garden beds
We had a small but mighty team of volunteers last week to complete the installation of gardens beds as part of our 2019 garden expansion. Thank you to all the volunteers who gave their time and talents (and time off) to make this possible! We now have growing space for over 100 families!
Sunflower Reading Program & Garden Art
Don't forget to bring your children or grandchildren to our
Sunflower Reading program
and art activity on Saturdays from 10am to 11am. This Saturday's garden topic is
seeds
with books read by Pitney gardener Jay Ephraim, and the activity will be the creation of a seed germination necklace with volunteer Jess Clauser. There is a $5 suggested materials donation for those participating in the activity. There is no charge for the storytime. Thanks to
Northshire Bookstore
for adding to our exciting collection of farm and garden related books, and to volunteer Faye Mihuta, for creating and hosting this much-loved program.
Remaining site work
Over the next week we will be focusing on the final grading around the new beds and seeding the perimeter with sunflowers. We will also be preparing the site for the children's greenhouse, which will be located at the edge of the gardens. Please let me know if you would like to be involved with this site work.
