Every 50 donors to Social Work on Pitt Day of Giving unlocks another $5,000 from the Board of Visitors in challenge funds - up to $20,000 for 200 donors! All challenge funds received will go toward student support.

Q&A with Sara Goodkind about her new EIC role
Associate Professor Sara Goodkind was just named part of a three-person Editor-in-Chief team at Affilia, the feminist social work journal. She spoke to us about her history with the publication and what lies ahead. Read more.
Faculty member co-edits special issue about pandemic
Assistant professor Brianna Lombardi guest co-edited the special issue of Social Work in Health Care which is a two part special issue. She co-authored the introduction article "Introduction to the special issue: Social work practice in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic - Challenges and innovations" that is now available online.
PhD student to present at conference
Doctoral candidate, Laurenia Mangum, along with colleagues from the Graduate School of Public Health are presenters at the 2021 Cross-Disciplinary Conference on Engaging Humanities in Health, April 9-10, 2021. Their presentation highlights the use of personal essays and narrative reflections of art images to deepen understanding of global health concepts and intersectionality among undergraduate and graduate students.

Obituary: Margaret C. Carty
BASW alumna Margaret C. Carty, executive director of the Maryland Library Association and a Navy veteran, passed away Feb. 4 of complications from cancer at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Read more in the Baltimore Sun.

Alumna to be honored at annual gala
The Senior Services of Alexandria’s Virtual ‘Stay-at-Home’ Gala will give a special honor to MSW alumna Kate Garvey, Director of Alexandria’s Department of Community and Human Services, for her leadership in developing an effective response to the Covid-19 crisis through the coordination of local non-profit activities and the creation of innovative programs designed to help those most negatively impacted by the pandemic.
