Tree of Life, Two Years Later
It was two years ago on Oct. 27 that a gunman burst into the Tree of Life synagogue in Squirrel Hill and opened fire, killing 11 people and wounding six. Read about the work by faculty members Rafael Engel and Daniel Rosen, along with postdoc Daniel Lee, related to the workers affected by the tragedy in this issue of Pittwire.
Discussions look at ‘Shattering the Statistics’ on sexual violence
Assistant Professor Rachel Gartner and doctoral alumnus Danny Jacobson Lopez participated on a panel  that is part of a new series of discussions called “Shattering the Statistics: A Collective Effort Towards Ending Sexual Violence,” sponsored by Pitt’s Sexual Violence Prevention and Education Office. Former faculty members win awards
The 12th Annual Celebrating Senior Champions Dinner and Auction honored distinguished individuals and organizations for their outstanding accomplishments in creating a better life for seniors with a special on-line event. Among the winners were MSW and PhD alumna Emma Lucas-Darby, who also has served as an adjunct and director of the MSW program, and former adjunct Dr. Richard Morycz. Read more.
Faculty member's publications gain attention
Assistant Professor Leah Jacobs's paper "Neighborhood Risk Factors for Recidivism: For Whom do they Matter?" was recently listed on SSRN's Top Ten download list for: Corrections & Sentencing Law & Policy eJournal.

Jacobs also recently published "Defund the Police: Moving Towards an Anti-Carceral Social Work" along with Pitt Social Work co-authors Rachel Gartner, Shante Stuart McQueen, and Darren Whitfield.
PhD student's article published
Doctoral candidate, Craig Sewall, published an article in the prestigious Journal of Child Psychology & Psychiatry (impact factor = 7.035) entitled "A Bayesian multilevel analysis of the longitudinal associations between relationship quality and suicidal ideation and attempts among youth with bipolar disorder." 
Pitt Social Work now open for limited in-person visits
Pitt Social Work is now welcoming visitors in the Dean's office Mondays and Thursdays, and in the Student Services Center by appointment. Stay up-to-date on the hours or make an appointment by checking the Pitt Social Work COVID-19 resources webpage.
