Dean Farmer selected as Fellow to Academy
Dean Betsy Farmer was selected as a Fellow of the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare. The induction ceremony for will be held virtually at the Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR) on Friday, January 22, 2021. Read more about Dr. Farmer's research.
Dean Emeritus wins award
Dean Emeritus Dr. Larry Davis will be honored with the Phyllis Black Lifetime Achievement award at the NASW-PA annual conference on Tuesday, October 27th from 10am-12pm. You can register for the conference on the NASW-PA website.
Faculty members win PInCh award
Professor Valire Copeland and Associate Dean for Research and Browne Chair Shaun Eack are part of a winning team for a $25,000 Pitt Innovation Challenge 2020 award for their part of the project "Thinking in Speech." A cognitive therapy that helps children with autism independently cope with everyday events that cause stress, by developing their ability to use “inner speech” – the voice in our heads we use to think. MSW alumna helps Pitt with community outreach efforts
MSW alumna Carrie Finkelstein is working with Pitt's Office of Community and Governmental Relations to help local community organizations find gaps in service, share resources, and mobilize voters. Read more.
Whitfield gets attention for new grant
Assistant Professor Darren Whitfield received a $443,533 grant from the National Institute of Mental Health to investigate the relationship between psychosocial factors (depressive symptomatology, substance use, social support, perceived HIV risk) and adherence and persistence to HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) among young Black gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (MSM).  Read more on Pittwire.
