Deaf Brown American Mom by Fran Ledonio Flaherty
Wednesday - Thursday: 11 am - 6 pm
Friday - Saturday: 11 am - 8 pm
Sunday: 11 am - 5 pm

Fran Ledonio Flaherty, a first-generation immigrant from the Philippines, has lived in Pittsburgh for 30 years. Flaherty is a teaching artist, and her work addresses the intersectionality of racism, disability, and motherhood. A graduate of the Studio Arts and History of Art and Architecture program at the University of Pittsburgh, she came to know the city through her years there. Through humor, technology, and history, this exhibition examines Flaherty’s experiences as a Deaf Brown American Mom and how to find her place in the city she now calls her home.

With over seventy artworks, Flaherty’s Deaf Brown American Mom exhibition provides a range of media such as silk prints, photographs, 3D prints, digital fabricated pieces, acrylic paintings that express her work of living in a post-2016 America. Within this show, there is a smaller exhibit called Lockdown. Included in this smaller exhibition are references to politically charged events such as several trials related to the Black Lives Matter movement, mask and vaccination protests, and the riots that took place on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Brain Bone Blood Exhibit Ends May 15
BRAIN BONE BLOOD is a solo exhibition by DS Kinsel that presents a collection of artifacts exploring abstracted anatomy, jujuism, and the amalgamation of identities.
BRAIN BONE BLOOD primarily presents a wide-ranging set of canvas paintings depicting bold epicene forms. Each work presents a unique subject experiencing dissection, forcing an act of sacrifice of these unfamiliar bodies across diptychs, triptychs, and quadriptych. Bold brush strokes, text-based patterns, and intense surface texture are the most present feature paintings by Kinsel. BRAIN BONE BLOOD not only acts as a title for this collection, but a sacred hymn repeated across the paintings in the act of spellcasting. Turning these obvious art objects into totems that display easily accessible conjurations of an unknown magic. Entirely new, this collection of paintings has never been shown publicly.

The additional artifacts featured in the exhibition serve as totems that demonstrate a symphony of personal stories. Reflecting the various ideas, techniques, and physical experiences held inside our BRAINS BONES and BLOOD.
Monterey Pub Reopens Under New Owners
Close to downtown, this beloved North Side neighborhood gastropub appeared to be a COVID casualty as it was closed and put up for sale. But the Mexican War Streets collectively celebrated when it was purchased by investors who kept the name, spruced it up and injected some new blood and ideas.
Banking Scams on the Rise, Protect Yourself
As part of Dollar Bank’s commitment to protecting our customers, we want to inform you about scams that are occurring in the banking industry. Cybercriminals are targeting bank customers directly through known and trusted channels of communication, such as telephone, text message and e-mail. For example, their efforts may include “spoofing” our telephone number, so it appears as “Dollar Bank” on your caller ID. Cybercriminals use this tactic to gain your trust as an official communication from your bank.

It is important to NEVER provide personal or financial information (i.e., social security numbers, card numbers, expiration dates, online banking usernames or passwords, one-time-passcodes) in response to telephone calls, e-mails or text messages.

Increased awareness surrounding financial scams can help you protect yourself. If you receive an unexpected telephone call, text message or e-mail communication appearing to be from Dollar Bank, we recommend the following precautions:

  • NEVER trust your telephone caller ID. Cybercriminals can easily “spoof” a telephone number to make it appear as though it’s coming from any number. Before providing any personal information to a caller, hang up and call the company back using a number you trust, such as the telephone number on the back of your card. Even though the telephone number may be the same as what appeared on your caller ID, remember, cybercriminals can “spoof” the number when calling you but when you call the number back, you will reach the correct owner of that number.

  • NEVER click links provided within e-mails or text messages. Doing so could take you to a fake website that appears to be legitimate to solicit personal information or install malicious viruses on your device. Always navigate to the company’s website through a trusted source, such as typing in the company’s website directly or locating it through a trusted search engine.

  • NEVER provide a passcode that is sent to your phone to someone who calls you. Criminals attempt to trick individuals into revealing passcodes by stating they need to “verify your identity”. The criminal is attempting to use your identity or information to open or access accounts associated with you. They need the passcode to complete the transaction or access your accounts.

  • NEVER provide any personal information to someone who calls you, regardless of the “story” or reason being provided. When in doubt, hang up and call the company back through a telephone number you trust.

Remember, Dollar Bank will never ask you for personal information unless you contact us in person or by phone requesting a banking transaction (for example, new account opening request, loan application, the transaction between two accounts, etc.).

If you believe you may have provided personal information to someone pretending to be from Dollar Bank, please call us immediately at 1-800-242-2265, Monday – Friday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

More information on scams and how to protect yourself is available on our website. Type the following URL into a browser for more details: dollar.bank/security.
