As a way to say thank you members, we're having a special National Senior Center Month Lunch Celebration for members at the Pittsfield Township Park Pavilion on September 8th. Lunch will be provided by Texas Roadhouse. Social time starts at 11am and lunch will be served at 11:30am. This event is open to Pittsfield Senior Center members only and limited to the first 100 registered participants. Registration opens Aug 1st. Deadline to register is Sept 1st. Memberships are valid 1/1 - 12/31 and fees can be paid in person or online prior to picnic registration.


August is a quiet month at the center as we prepare for the WCC and fitness classes to resume in September. Do you have a class you'd like to see this fall in the fitness room? Tell us!


Registration for all fall programs opens August 1st. We have several new classes starting in September with more information coming in the next newsletter. Please register for any and all programs you attend. This is the only way we know who to contact if a program is cancelled, postponed or changed.


Potlucks are back! PSI Travel Group will be hosting a potluck on July 28th at noon here at the center. Come join the fun at 11am to chat with friends. There will be a special election for a new PSI board at 1pm. PSI Travel Group annual membership is $5 payable by check only.


PSI Travel Group will also be hosting their Annual Picnic Potluck on August 25th at noon here at the center. $2 suggested donation. They will provide hot dogs and drinks. Bring a dish to pass for 8 people.



Top Gun: Maverick is our Movie of the Month at the Senior Center on August 25th at 1pm. FREE to members!


Mahjong finally has enough people for game play. Come join the fun on Tuesday mornings at 10am. Not sure how to play? Come watch the game and learn!


Save the date! Our Health Fair & Flu Shot Clinic will be held here at the Senior Center on October 13th from 9am - 12pm. Details will be coming in the next few months.

New Programs & Classes

Focus: HOPE


Focus: HOPE will now be offering FREE monthly food distribution on the second Thursday of every month,11-11:30am, in the Senior Center parking lot.

8/10, 9/14, 10/12, 11/9 & 12/14. This program is for seniors 60+.

For additional information, Focus: HOPE can be reached at 313-494-4600.


Free food is available to single seniors with an annual income of $18,954 or a two senior family with an annual income of $25,636. If you're income is slightly over, Focus: HOPE may be able to help. Please bring the following information to certify. 1 - identification, 2 - proof of age, 3 - proof of residency, 4 - household size. Focus: HOPE runs this program.


Supplemental Food Program Food Packages contain: milk, pasta/grains, cereal, protein, meat, vegetables/soup, fruits/juice and cheese.

Snack & Learn - How to Thrive while Aging Solo

Solo aging is widespread, and it’s on the rise. You may fall into this category if you have never married, have been living alone since a divorce, are widowed, have relatives or children that live far away or do not to have children. Solo agers face unique scenarios and joys as they get older. A plan to maintain your future independence, choices, and satisfaction is essential. Learn how to plan now so you can thrive later. Topics discussed include home modifications for aging in place, creating medical directives, building social networks, identifying your caregiving team before a crisis, and much more.

Washtenaw Support Network for Caregivers

Washtenaw Support Network for Caregivers is a new program to support informal/family caregivers of older adults (age 60+; the caregiver can be an adult of any age). We are offering a variety of services, all at no cost to the caregivers.

Program offerings include:

  • Social outings to give caregivers a chance to relax and connect
  • Educational programs on topics related to caregiving
  • Respite care during caregiver activities
  • Individualized care-planning consultations
  • Home chore and handyman services

The first outing for caregivers will be a free, guided tour of the Matthaei Botanical Gardens. That event is scheduled for Wednesday, July 26, 1:00-3:00 PM.

Registration Required. Meets at Lillie Park South


Come for a walk on the wild side. Socialize and Exercise with loops from .5 - 2+ miles, pick your level of intensity. Wear your walking shoes, dress for the weather, it’s a good idea to bring water, a walking stick or trekking pole, some bug spray, and a hat.


We’ll all walk together around the paved path, for some that will be plenty and for others that’ll be a warm-up for the longer gravel path, and for the more adventurous walkers there are additional paths to explore after that. Come as often as you can.

Join our naturalists for a variety of nature programs at our parks.

PSI Travel Group Announcements

PSI Travel Group POTLUCKS ARE BACK!

PSI Travel Group is looking for members to join the board for 2023. Please attend the potluck and vote on July 28th. Social hour 11am followed by a potluck at noon and voting at 1pm. Please bring a dish to pass for 8+ people. PSI Travel Group will not be providing a main dish for this potluck. A $2 donation is requested for each person.


Participation in the potluck is not required to participate in the election of board members. You must be a PSI Travel Group member to vote. Membership can be renewed before you vote. PSI extended trips, football parties and other PSI run events will only happen with a viable board to run the PSI Travel organization.

Senior Center Day Trips

Wednesday, August 23 - Detroit Tigers Game

Join us on a charter bus to see the Detroit Tigers take on the Chicago Cubs at Comerica Park. Game starts at 1:10pm. Bus leaves at 11am and returns approx. 5:30pm. Times subject to change.
