Google Livestream: Sell Online This Holiday Season with E-Commerce Tools

New York State Women, Inc., Mohawk Valley Chapter, and the Mohawk Valley SBDC will be welcoming a panel of three local business women who will talk to us about their own experiences in their businesses, what's been working, and offer resources to help guide women in the workplace along their paths during the pandemic.

Empire State Digital (New)

With Empire State Digital, New York State has partnered with leading global e-commerce partners—Shopify, Square, Clearbanc, and Etsy—to accelerate New York State based small businesses’ ability to grow their online presence.

Empire State Digital's participating partners are offering specialized solutions such as education, free resources, marketing support and discounted pricing that are unique to the needs of New York’s small businesses. The aim is to give small business access to toolkits and resources to digitize, find new markets and adapt to the new economy due to the changes from COVID-19.

MainStreet ONLINE provides small businesses and artists in the State of New York with free, hands-on support to start selling online just in time for the holiday season. Support includes:

  • Hands-on assistance setting up a Shopify website
  • Free product listings on the Google shopping tab
  • Optimized free Business Profile on Google Search and Maps
  • Support building effective Smart Shopping campaigns on Google

Small Business Panel: Cyber Operations

Join the Greater Utica Chamber of Commerce for their second Better Your Business small business panel discussion of 2020, Cyber Operations. In our new normal of conducting business virtually for the last several months, we’ve all had to make major adjustments to how we operate. The panel will include knowledgeable local professionals who will help cover some of the challenges of working virtually.
Free Safety Training Available to Local Businesses

This 4-hour training targets workers at small businesses in Oneida, Madison, Herkimer, Onondaga, and Lewis counties, and will include contact & exposure hazards, materials moving, personal protective equipment, fall prevention, housekeeping regulations, forklifts and handling materials, ladders, walking and working surfaces, fire protection, powered industrial trucks, lockout/tagout and similar points.

Oneida County Microenterprise Grant Program

Mohawk Valley EDGE has announced the Oneida County Microenterprise Program. Grants from $5,000 to $35,000 are available.

  • Businesses must be in the manufacturing, warehousing and distribution, agri-business, high-tech, research and development and traditional and innovative small business sectors 
  • Must employ five or fewer employees, including the business owner(s)
  • Must be located within Oneida County, but outside of the CDBG entitlement cities of Utica and Rome 
  • Project must result in either the creation or retention of jobs which are available to low- to moderate income (LMI) persons as defined by Office of Community Renewal guidelines
  • Applicant must present a reasonable likelihood for long-term viability based upon issues such as feasibility, marketability, management, competition, and capitalization
  • Funds must be used for the purchase of capital assets such as machinery and equipment, or working capital 
  • Utilization of funds must be eligible pursuant to the guidelines governing the CDBG program
Herkimer County IDA Microenterprise Grant Fund

The Herkimer County Industrial Development Agency is pleased to announce the development of a Microenterprise Grant Fund. Funding from the state in the amount of $200,000 will be granted to small and start-up businesses with five or fewer employees, that want to establish or expand a new or existing business located within Herkimer County. Grant amounts will range from $5,000 to $35,000, depending upon job creation and owner’s income status.
