Placer County had a great turnout for

Arts Advocacy Day!

A strong team proudly represented Placer County arts and advocated to our legislators at the State Capitol yesterday. Thanks to Co-Captains Jenny Darlington-Person, Arts Council of Placer County, and Anne Brown, Auburn Symphony, for leading and organizing this effort as a part of the CA Arts Advocacy Day.

We shared that Arts and Culture drive 7.5% of California's economy, contributing over $289 billion in economic activity and supporting one in ten jobs. We asked that $5M be restored to the CA Arts Council and to consider continued funding for the Performing Arts Equitable Payroll Fund. We also highlighted that locally in Placer County non-profit arts and culture generated a $26.1 million economic impact* (AEP6 study), so we are working to change the conversation about the arts from one of a charity to instead view the arts as an investment in an industry that yields both economic and cultural benefits.

Thank you to all the staff and volunteers who shared their personal stories, the importance of arts, and who lobbied for funding, and lead the way to advance innovations in integrating arts and health.

  • 20% of people who participate in the arts once a month are less likely to be depressed.
  • Making art for just 45 minutes can reduce cortisol (stress hormone).
  • 86% of Americans believe "arts and culture improve my community's quality of life and livability."
