Framily Dinners
Friends:
When I was a parish priest, one of the things John, my husband, and I loved to do on a Sunday afternoon was grill or smoke a protein (and yes, smoked seitan is yummy), invite others to bring sides, and sit down to a meal with our friends and family. These are called “framily dinners.” And I miss them.
So, this fall, I am hoping to revive the tradition, with a Diocese of North Dakota Twist.
Since you can’t come to my tiny two-bedroom apartment/office, and since I am already coming to you regularly… I propose to hold these dinners in your spaces. In the parish hall, in the back yard, wherever seems appropriate. I’ll bring a main dish (like a crockpot of something, as I also don’t have my beloved flat top grill) and what John calls “the stuff” (condiments, plates, napkins, table covers, utensils, glasses, etc…). You bring a side dish and what you want to drink (beyond soda and water).
And you invite friends and family.
This isn’t a formal occasion. I won’t be giving a big speech (and neither should you!). There isn’t an agenda except to get to know one another and chat. Even your unchurched friends and family might enjoy it. I always do.
Now, I can’t really do it more than once a month, but I do hope to do it each month as long as weather permits through the program year. SO, please look at the visitation schedule, see when I am coming and ask around. Does anyone want to have a framily dinner together? Let me know.
