January 9, 2025

Dear Community Member,

As we welcome the new year, many of us are envisioning what 2025 will bring, making lists, and setting goals. Some are even crafting vision boards, filled with images and words that represent the year they hope to create. But how do we envision the City of Spokane’s future over the next twenty years?

As we embark on the Periodic Update to the Comprehensive Plan, due in 2026, that is the question ahead of us. Before diving into policy and goal discussions, we must pause and reflect as a community on what future we hope to create for the City of Spokane in 2046. What better way to do this than by creating our own vision board?

Share images and words that represent your vision for the City of Spokane through Engage Spokane, an online community space that allows you to offer input and help shape the future of our vibrant city. More information and directions can be found at the link below.

27 By 2027

The City of Spokane recently proposed an ambitious goal to build 27 miles of new, connected, comfortable bike routes by 2027. The network will connect people throughout the City directly to major trails such as the Centennial Trail, the Ben Burr Trail, and the Children of the Sun Trail.

The network has been designed to follow low-traffic residential streets, which are already comfortable for people of all ages and experience. This means young children and inexperienced riders should feel just as comfortable using these routes as long-time cyclists.

There is a lot of work to do between now and 2027. Some portions of the network will be constructed as early as this summer!

Division Street Transit-Oriented Development (TOD)

With support from the Federal Transit Administration's Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Pilot Program, local agencies are considering ways to align future development along Division Street with upcoming investments in high-performance transit. Through this grant, the City of Spokane, Spokane County and the Spokane Transit Authority seek to understand opportunities for fostering vibrant, walkable development at transit station areas along Division Street.

Over the next two months, we will be seeking your feedback about your vision for the future of land use along the Division Street corridor. Stay tuned for a public survey and open house in February.

In the meantime, learn more about the project here at Engage Spokane:
